The purpose of the statement was not only to really accuse those who were "as bad or worse" of opportunist behavior, but also to underscore the real need for a serious and straightforward attitude to criticism and investigation. The organizations and individuals in question could have been much better than RGA, they could have even been RAIM members, but our criticism applies equally to them. This is something we felt even during the demise of the NCP-LC, which we had famously feuded with for years. The purpose of investigation and criticism should be to understand why and how something came to pass, and to build unity around correct ideas. We felt no need to air the dirty laundry of an organization or pop champaign, in fact, we were disgusted that those very same hangers on who had latched onto them for so long were now engaging in opportunist gossip passed off as criticism. The only criticisms and analyses at this time that were worthy of a serious appraisal were those from the Red Guards, whose original polemic was mostly responsible for the unseating of the corrupt center of the NCP-LC.

However in our current situation it is completely unclear why the Red Guards have collapsed, if indeed they have, and nobody is served by the self-aggrandizing rumor-mongering initiated mainly by the PSL-WWP renegades and the ensemble of other opportunists. So we felt it necessary to make a statement and reassert our principles for those who may have felt confused or at odds with the general discourse. We had and have significant differences with the Red Guards groupings, and we by no means were looking to minimize those differences by making that statement. Yet in spite of those differences we have not and do not consider them an enemy, and even considering what we view as an underdeveloped and deviationist view of imperialism, we did understand them as within the revolutionary and anti-imperialist camp, spoken broadly. They certainly were enemies of the amerikan state, and while we viewed their uncritical support of the YPG and other amerikan allies in the Syrian conflict as negligently opportunist, we do not believe this can sum up their general orientation. Similarly, one cannot consider the orientation of most the PSL-WWP revisionists against the YPG as evidence of a genuinely anti-imperialist orientation, rather these things must be taken in whole.

What places RGA (or any other organization) in the revolutionary camp is not the correctness of their ideas, but the verifiable commitment to making revolution. In that regard we do believe that RGA was a part of the revolutionary camp, because they seriously pursued the question of making revolution as a primarily military question. They were not, as the PSL-WWP renegades are, obsessed with vulgarizing revolutionary theory with vague notions of "revolutionary processes" that obscure or negate Maoist and even Marxist-Leninist notions of revolution. While we disagreed with their proposals, especially Protracted People's War as the "universal military strategy of the proletariat", we do consider the seriousness in posing the question of making revolution as a military one is a necessary qualifier. It is what separates those undependable elements of liberals and revisionists from the camp of elements we can rightly consider fellow travelers at least.

Furthermore, their consideration of the national question is worth noting, and was a far cry from the garbage they left behind with the NCP-LC. Again, we disagree with many of their conclusions concerning the national question, especially those which preclude separatism as a viable outcome for national revolutionaries, but we see that struggle exists around these questions. This cannot be said for their predecessors, and certainly not for a majority of the so-called u.$. "left". Even in our opposition to their line, we do not take for granted the existence of advanced elements, especially as relates to the ideological struggle over the New Afrikan and Chicanx national questions. In the context of ideological struggle, we view this as a much more valuable frontline than the hopeless mission of attempting to convince the arch-chauvinists elsewhere that the New Afrikan nation even exists, let alone its national liberation struggle.

In sum, we believe it correct to understand them as an enemy of imperialism, and while we did not consider them fraternal, there is nothing to suggest they were our enemies. Indeed, much more so than the constellation of groups and individuals with poorly defined politics and vague points of unity, we felt there was much more substance that could be investigated, criticized and productively counter-posed with RGA. They were, after all, Maoists, representing one part in the ongoing two-line struggle within Maoism in north amerika. Although their mistaken ideas come mainly from their poor class analysis and deviations common to Gonzalo Thought, we see their point of origin as familiar, and therefore ideological struggle occurs on a much higher foundation than that with the undisciplined and eclectic nonsense that pervades among the PSL-WWP revisionists.

We would like to close by saying that we take nothing about RGA uncritically, and have made it our business to interrogate their political line since they were founded. We did not have reliable contact with them, nor were we in any kinds of political discussions or debates with them, however we also never precluded the possibility that ideological struggle might be fruitful at some point. As outlined previously in our article on first-worldism and revisionism, we believe that political unity is most immediately necessary around the Third-Worldist tendency of Maoism, and that we must pursue first the highest state of unity to consolidate forces around core principles. Yet once this is accomplished, it is precisely those organizations like RGA that ideological struggle will be most fruitful with.
