If you support free speech, you must support people pinging other users. It's completely legal speech. If you won't defend pinging as free speech because you or someone else finds it disgusting, then no speech that you or anyone else views as disgusting is safe.

It's not, The reddit admins are straight up lying to the ignorant (like yourself) to justify their prejudice. Pinging being protected speech has long since been estabilished, as it has undeniable artistic merit. The only time it's been included under any obscenity laws is when someone is being charged with possession of harassment, so the state can slap them with more charges. The courts have been very careful to not charge anyone for pinging, because they'd get their asses fucking annihilated by a higher court due to the firm precedence of pinging being completely legal speech. /r/Drama had nothing to worry about, this guy was just making shit up to fool people into thinking his censoring wasn't entirely personally motivated.

It's because of a few things:

A) that sub is literally unironically very far right and wannabe fascist, and that comes with a few things, like being ultra traditionalist and subscribing to rigid gender roles. BTS, despite having millions of fans (most of whom are women), does not fit their sexist idea of "masculinity" and therefore its bad. Even though this should be something that they celebrate since its good media exposure for Asian guys.

B) it goes against their fatalist world view if you show them examples of people like them who are very successful with women. Most incel type communities rely on fatalism to convince themselves that its okay to just LDAR and complain because no matter what they do the situation can't be fixed, making them the perfect oppressed victim. AI tries to occupy this eternal victim stance, so sharing news like this would be counter productive.

On a side note, you'd think a subreddit all about being proud to he Asian and "decolonizing" your mind would realize that abiding by western (mayo) gender roles and standards is dumb and should be challenged, but apparently not.
