So, Reddit is an open space, a marketplace of ideas, which appears to be indulging in some light viewpoint discrimination. It’s based in California. Only defense I can imagine raising is the plaintiff can fuckoff to a competitor. But that was what the malls tried in let and it failed.
What stops a Californian user from some light litigation against a Californian company for viewpoint discrimination? Aside from the inherent shame that comes with 1) admitting you’re a Redditor, and; 2) admitting you’re a T_D mod/subscriber/what have you.

The sub has also allowed an incredible amount of content that projects ideas regarding racism, calls to violence, etc. When these types of posts end up appearing near the top for searches, it makes Reddit look real bad.

Does this mean I advocate for hate to spur good? Absolutely not, but what it does mean is that open discourse between people is the avenue towards good.
Do we not study the history of tyrants to learn lessons and not fall for that again? Do we not think critically about what they say so as to sharpen our reasoning and improve our resilience to its sway? Is not sticking your head in the sand only a temporary measure of relief, and is not engagement the way to ultimately change the situation where you want to put your head in the sand? Does not psychology teach at its most basic level that you must face your fears to over come them? Have we not learned anything from our long history on how to move forward?
Those who are our enemies can become our friends via interaction. We can grow and change each other for the positive via interaction. Shutting down communication only makes things fester.
Do those KKK people go away when you jam your hands over your ears? Do they go away when you stuff socks in their mouths? They do not. THey go away when they lose credibility by rational challenge. THey lose face when they lose the argument in front of others. They lose followers when better reason prevails.

I am mildly curious about a detail with reddit that may one day land it in hot water. Granted 1) I’m not a civil rights attorney and 2) I’d be delighted if every political subreddit was wiped from reddit.
California has recognized commercial properties may be free speech zones (shopping mall cases). Basically if you provide a forum, speech must be allowed so long as there is reasonable time and placement.
Viewpoint discrimination is a nope. Unlike other states CA forbids discrimination based on political ideology.
So, Reddit is an open space, a marketplace of ideas, which appears to be indulging in some light viewpoint discrimination. It’s based in California. Only defense I can imagine raising is the plaintiff can fuckoff to a competitor. But that was what the malls tried in let and it failed.
What stops a Californian user from some light litigation against a Californian company for viewpoint discrimination? Aside from the inherent shame that comes with 1) admitting you’re a Redditor, and; 2) admitting you’re a T_D mod/subscriber/what have you.

There’s a huge legal gray area in what the definition of “open public spaces” means when it comes to the ADA and websites.
Winn-Dixie got sued and really opened up a can of worms. Since the current federal ADA requirements for websites were written in the 90’s, there’s basically been a free-for-all among municipalities.
Netflix and Amazon have been sued as well, but settled quietly out of court.

Do we not think critically about what they say so as to sharpen our reasoning and improve our resilience to its sway? Is not sticking your head in the sand only a temporary measure of relief, and is not engagement the way to ultimately change the situation where you want to put your head in the sand? This policy of trying to censor or restrict interaction with T_D is the exact opposite of the means of improving the situation there. You must engage with facts and reason and civility and prevail. You must be patient like Ghandi. Do not reciprocate hate with hate, let that unreciprocated hate wear on the conscious and change.
