The reason for the black coins is that towards the end of the war many European countries began minting money out of cheaper materials. France and Austria coins do the same thing.
I buy coins on eBay, and the majority of them are gifts from family and friends. I don’t have any memorabilia outside of coins and stamps, but it’s a fun hobby and I like history.
I know the kind of person you’re talking about and I don’t associate with them lol.
I did some metal detecting in Germany while I was living there. My favorite place to go was Nuremberg city park. I couldn't go to alot of other places because they were historical sites (nazi parade grounds in Nuremberg).
I came out with ALOT of older duetchmarks. Pre ww1. Most of the ww2 era coins I found were too corroded to be saved.
In western Europe any area where there was a battle is usually marked as a historical area where you're not allowed to dig or treasure hunt. There was a online map I used to mark these locations. Not sure where it is now. Most of the big finds were in Poland and the rest of eastern Europe since there are little to no restrictions.
Oh ok, yeah all the amateur digs for WW2 artifacts seem to be from Eastern Europe. I dont know whats better, leaving it to rot in the ground or just let trophy hunters have at it.
Theres a big market for ww2 memorabilia. Especially battlefield finds. Alot of that stuff gets sold online after its picked and cleaned. I'd rather it be in the hands of collectors than rotting away to be forgotten.
Bodies do get exhumed and returned to Russia and Germany as well in the process so I'm personally for it
Yeah as an edgy teen I used to collect Nazi paperwork, medals and other various militaria, its surprisingly cheap, I ended up swapping most of my collection for a P.38 and a couple of boxes of ammo.

Oh yeah definitely. I went out with a German girl and her family were trying to bring a family members remains home.
This is actually a big problem in Europe with metal detecting. There is still a shit ton of UXO's in the ground from both world wars. I've only ever found live ammo. No bombs. However I did have a couple scares.
I buy coins off eBay usually, but these were gifted to me by a deceased relative. I’ve gotten a reputation for being “the coin and stamp guy” in my family because people know I won’t throw their collections away or sell them

I believe they’re steel
2 ManBearFridge 2019-05-10
That's some shitty looking steel. That reminds me, US pennies were minted in steel for the last year of two in the war. They didn't look so bad.

Steel pennies are sexy

It's because America makes quality cheap coins. We don't cheap out on our cheapness.

That's pretty cool, did you buy them in person? Because I went through a phase of buying old coins and militaria and ime at least 80% are legit nazis.

Didn’t expect to actually learn something on drama today, much appreciated.

That’s so rad, do you own a metal detector or did you rent one?
1 Manchu_Fist 2019-05-10
I owned one. Got rid of it when I moved back to murica.
1 Manchu_Fist 2019-05-10
Heres some bullets I found. There used to be a shooting range in Nuremberg city park.

Those are cool dude. Are they heavy?
1 Manchu_Fist 2019-05-10
Npe. Just standard lead rifled black powder rounds. Somewhere between .3 to .4
1 Wheretheflowersgrew 2019-05-10
What are the laws like regarding this kind of thing other than parade grounds? Can you freely search unrestricted historical battlegrounds?

That's pretty cool! I remember having at least 1 Nazi era coin but I don't remember what it was. Where did you buy them from btw?
