I don't know if it has changed in the last few years, but what always surprised me about women's soccer is how bad the level of play is.

I mean, I'm no soccer expert, but watching the world cup I could notice the low quality of passes, shots during the matches.

Like, I know Serena is going to get rekt by any top 200 male player, but when watching women play tennis, at least it doesn't register as an obviously low quality product to my untrained eye.

It makes sense when you consider the pipeline. There are way more boys trying to play soccer at a professional level than girls, so you can grab the top talent from a much larger pool. This is actually one reason why the USWNT is good - the US youth soccer participation is about 50/50 male/female. Also, the training/development pipelines for boys are much better too. So the pro male soccer players end up being not only stronger, but more skilled.

Tennis doesn't have this, because the pool of players and the training is more even between the sexes.
