Cornu aspersum was introduced to California in the 1850's as a food animal, and has since become a part of the ecosystem. They originated in north Africa and the Mediterranean, and have adapted to many temperate climates around the globe, spread by humans intending to farm them.
In Europe, they are eaten as escargot, and farmed commercially as well as foraged.
Once I'm confident that I can successfully raise them, I plan on it. Giant African land snails reach that massive size in the same time these garden snails reach their full size.
Imagine having been bitten by a snail ๐คฃ๐ what if they ganged up on you and chased you! "Where did you get these scars my man, Afghanistan?" "No, I was mauled by a pack of snails while hiking in Wisconsin. Vicious beasts."
Yeah banana slugs seem to thrive pretty well in my back yard. I would fucking love to see a couple giant snails near my basement door every once in a while.
I mean if it didn't shake up the ecosystem as bad as I've heard they do I would be down
I has escargot once but I felt like the snails were just a cheese delivery device and it would have been delicious with or without the snails. Opinion?
Youโre right itโs a butter garlic delivery service but the texture is awesome. Bread just doesnโt do the flavor justice. I really think you need a snail to deliver the flavors fully.
Have you tried feeding them omelette?
I fed pieces of omelette to a huge slug that graced me with its presence once and it was awesome how it audibly chomped on them.

Seriously. If pornhub is suggesting cuck porn for you, it's because their algorithm has determined, scientifically, that you're a cuck. That's all.

Snally is a gussy, cut her some slack. Iโm sure many animals are dangerous to her.

She probably hibernates, that's when those dastardly snails get to her.

There are things called cats and dogs.
1 BlasterBallz 2019-05-27
Or you can get a snail the size of a small cat

1 Pewkie 2019-05-27
Sadly they are illegal to own as pets in the US as far as I know as they are an extremely invasive species
1 BlasterBallz 2019-05-27
Aren't they already invasive? You can find them by the side of the road some places in the South.
1 Pewkie 2019-05-27
Wouldn't be surprised. I believe they are really harmful to the fauna it competes with because it's so good at what it does as well.
Big ๐= Best ๐
1 BlasterBallz 2019-05-27
They should be legal to own North of the frost line, I highly doubt an African snail could survive a North American winter.
But then again we have banana slugs, which are almost as bad ass.
1 Pewkie 2019-05-27
Yeah banana slugs seem to thrive pretty well in my back yard. I would fucking love to see a couple giant snails near my basement door every once in a while.

1 OverSocialization 2019-05-27
Something that big and slow can be an invasive species?
Iโm surprised birds donโt eat the shit out of them
1 Pewkie 2019-05-27
Yeah I don't trust these things wont invade a town like that YouTube tool music video
1 ubermanwolf 2019-05-27

1 BussySundae 2019-05-27
Post pics of that pussy
1 DerekSavageCoolCuck 2019-05-27
Plus they taste better than escargot.
1 Phantom_Engineer 2019-05-27
Yeah, but snails are much less demanding and judgemental.
1 BIknkbtKitNwniS 2019-05-27
I has escargot once but I felt like the snails were just a cheese delivery device and it would have been delicious with or without the snails. Opinion?

Agreed.
1 LondiPondi 2019-05-27
Remember that guy that was going to become a professional football player and then became retarded after eating a slug? That could be you OP.
1 StingAuer 2019-05-27
I'm not going to be eating some random raw slug, I'm going to eat cleanly raised and prepared snails that are commonly eaten.
1 SAC-Lawn_Gnome 2019-05-27
Cant be made retarded from eating a slug if you're already retarded.
Checkmate
1 DerekSavageCoolCuck 2019-05-27
Did the slug make a run for the nasal passage and eat his brain or something?
1 hi_0 2019-05-27
He ate a raw slug as a dare. It had parasites that turned his brain in to a vegetable iirc
1 I_FART_OUT_MY_BUTT69 2019-05-27
Lmao imagine being non-vegan
1 hi_0 2019-05-27
I'd rather be in a parasite induced coma than a vegan tbh

My grandmother cooks with eggs a lot, I'm going to be supplementing their diet with eggshells and whatever egg bits are stuck to them.
1 Tagesausbruch 2019-05-27
Don't put uncooked egg shells into the enclosure, you could create a big salmonella incubator
1 BeIIeAryan 2019-05-27
They have a thing called a radula, kinda like a tiny chainsaw tongue.
1 duchessHD 2019-05-27
i loathe slugs but love snails ๐
1 The_Great_I_Am_Not 2019-05-27
But they are the same thing.
A slug is just a homeless snail.
Why do you hate the homeless?
1 ExtremelyOnlineG 2019-05-27
Snail Farm is going to be the name of my all girl thrash metal band.
1 freet0 2019-05-27
What are their names?
1 refugeeinaudacity 2019-05-27
I love snails!
1 MundaneSignificance3 2019-05-27

1 Pepperglue 2019-05-27
Wholesome image of the day.
I wish I now have the drive to keep snails as pet.
1 StingAuer 2019-05-27
These ones aren't pets, they're breeders for farming.
