I've seen enough of those that didn't. Usually they ramble about imperialist propaganda. Or even those who did admitted all that and still said "it's okay that he hated gays, jews and other minorities cause he was fighting for the communist cause" or someshit like that, despite the fact that he literally created a society with strict classes, with the ultrarich elite at the top, and removed all the social lifts between them.
people are retweeting this, so I should stress that Stalin’s work for the revolution is still good, and that him doing a creepy thing (common for the 1930s but that’s a bad excuse) does not invalidate that work.

This might come as a shock to you, but I do not care about your opinions, your ignorance or failure to comprehend the research, or what you believe. The only thing I care about, and I can not stress this enough, is what the empirical research says. And it says you are wrong.
Your personal opinion? worth as much as a pile of dog shit on the sidewalk to me. That is the absolute extent to which I care about what you think. This is where I stopped reading. I do not entertain the economic illiteracy of far leftists or far right-wing tards.
Both are equally misinformed on average, both are failures.
Beria was head off secret police, he basically had the keys to power and stalin heavily relied in him. It's also thought that Beria may have had something really bad on Stalin, and a Stalin knew this, so Beria was basically the only person in the country who had something over him.
Here's an interesting story:
In one instance, when Stalin learned his daughter was alone with Beria at his house, he telephoned her and told her to leave immediately.
It's kind of interesting how powerless he seems here. Like he doesn't order Beria, he calls his daughter and tells her to run. Literally he is suspecting the guy of trying to rape his daughter. But this doesn't result in political action. Beria is too important and too powerful at that point. He can do what he wants.
For whatever it's worth it is highly suspected that Stalins death was due to poisoning by Beria. Beria apparently thought his time had come and knocked out uncle Joe to clear the way. But of course he didn't last very long in the resulting political struggle. I think this was the last time that soviet political turnover went bloody. Kruschev was inclined to moderation, and wound up letting Molotov and Co live after a power struggle about 5 years later. But Beria was different of course, he had too much power, and everyone else was too afraid of him, they basically had to ambush and surround him unanimously, after which he was swiftly taken out. It was pretty ballsy tbh.
The head of secret police in totalitarian countries usual gets really powerful really fast to the point of being untouchable due to just hearing about things hear and there that allow them to blackmail and neutralize political opponents. It's thought that blackmail was one of the things that kept Zhou Enlai under such a tight leash by Mao for decades. Zhou was incredibly popular, maybe more popular than Mao at some points, and basically the only right wing aligned and moderate member of the government to make it through all those years. Like he was essentially Deng Xiaopings protégé, and he took steps to reign in the red guards and the worst excesses of the Mao regime. But he never took the smallest step against Mao himself, and Mao kept him in very high office while all the other rightists were sent down to the countryside. So clearly he had a lot of faith that Zhou would not move against him. It's thought that Maos chief of the secret police acquired something in the 50s that was big enough to basically ensure that Zhou would never disobey a direct order from Mao.
Ironically, Beria was weirdly moderate as leader of the USSR. He was going to basically give East Germany back to the West, which is the political pretense that got him executed.
In one instance, when Stalin learned his daughter was alone with Beria at his house, he telephoned her and told her to leave immediately. When Beria complimented Alexander Poskrebyshev's daughter on her beauty, Poskrebyshev quickly pulled her aside and instructed her, "Don't ever accept a lift from Beria."[28] After taking an interest in Marshal Kliment Voroshilov's daughter-in-law during a party at their summer dacha, Beria shadowed their car closely all the way back to the Kremlin, terrifying Voroshilov's wife.
Why does he look exactly how I knew a 19 year old mentally damaged Jewish communist would look. It’s like they make these people on a fucking assembly line.
In the hamlet, Stalin had a relationship with Lidia Pereprygia, who was thirteen at the time and thus a year under the legal age of consent in Tsarist Russia. In or about December 1914, Pereprygia gave birth to Stalin's child, although the infant soon died. She gave birth to another of his children, Alexander, circa April 1917.

This has to be a parody account, even the biggest tankies I saw on reddit admitted that Stalin was a homophobe and weirdly religious sometimes.

Really? That? What about the fact that one of his close political contemporaries was serial rapist/killer?
