Background:

Mastodon is (basically) a decentralised twitter, where users join up to specific server instances and theirs "toots" (tweets) are sent around the whole network. Think twitter based on email and you get the same idea.

Unfortunately, the creators and key developers of the Mastodon ecosystem are the same ones who think that everyone on twitter is a Nazi, and nuance is capitalist propaganda. In other words, lolcows.

Now, the clowns over at gab.ai have decided to shitcan their social network (probably because it was buggy as shit), replacing it with a mastodon instance. It seems everyone on mastodon bussy blasted over this - even though decentralisation is the whole point of mastodon -, which is what leads us to this link.

Tusky is a mastodon client, and the developers merged in a change that rick rolls users who try and connect to the gab mastodon server(s). All comments mentioning how dumb this decision are shouted down with cries of "so you support nazis !!?!1!?":

The whole bag of nonsense What is a "public software"? Where did I (or maintainers) sign up doing whatever you want? Against whose will we are doing this (I know whose but I want you to think for yourself). We are not the government. We are not the "public company". We don't owe anyone risking being banned just to host nazis. We are not censoring interacting with Gab, we don't want them to use our app (it's free software of course and what we can do is limited in this regard). Fediverse cannot be censored by any single government or company. We also cannot censor them. We can refuse to provide convenience service for them. That's the least we can do.
