Nope, long term homeless are usually shooting up, drinking, stealing, getting into fights, or desperately trying to mind their own business and get out of homelessness despite mental illness.

You see that's the difference between many short term homeless and nearly every long term homeless person. You give your average long term homeless person a studio apartment and government money and you get a sheltered dead body or two. The homeless crisis is all kinds of bad with next to no cheap solution, many of the homeless need expensive medical care of literally every kind and permanent residential care. Without the ability to strip them of their civil liberties they'll just wreak havoc on the system and go right back to homelessness.
But you are right. A lot of leftoids think that just giving homeless free houses will cure the problem (Why dont I get a free house? I can take care of it). But they refuse to admit that most homeless are not just down on their luck blokes.
