not trolling, it's actually something that fascinates me. I love to hear other people's takes. I think that's because there's so little research into why people are trans. The right wingers think it's degenerate sin and no further explanation is needed, the left wingers think questioning why people are trans is questioning the validity of trans people, and so the topic is verboten.

Blanchard is pretty much the only legit expert (not a quack trying to justify their own biases they came into the field with) who is trying to explore and classify trans identity in a meaningful way and explain why people are transgender. Personally, I think his model is overly simplistic, as it largely ignores bisexual transgender people, who seem to actually be a large percentage of trans people as a whole, and also needs terminology improvement. He's clarified numerous times that there's nothing wrong with being AGP/AAP and that the involvement and inclusion of fetishes in gender identity is perfectly normal, but that doesn't change the fact that all anyone hears is "being trans is a fetish", when what he's actually proposing is much more nuanced than that.

Plus the term "homosexual transsexual" is just plain outdated.

Nonetheless, despite its flaws, his model still has a ring of truth to it, based on my interactions with trans people, and it is pretty much the only real scientific effort to classify trans people, so until something better comes along, it's what we've got.
