Shortly after the Trump came into office fullcommunism was pretty much a free for all in which calls for mass killing were frequently and unironically upvoted. But also after the election that was pretty much every sub. 2016 was a shit show, it's amazing how much darker the political discourse got. Like before 2016 the main reason there weren't stricter rules against violence, was because people largely did not make them, and if they did people would down vote them. So it kind of caught them off guard when the entire website turned into one constant riot.

Like I remember get really mad back in 2011 and I tried ironically calling the Republicans "the bad guys" in /r/politics, and I was mass down voted largely by democrats telling me that that made me "just like them". There's literally no way such a mild demonization would even be noticed today, you have to jump straight to calling for republican genocide to even register. I literally can't fathom someone calling for killing all Republicans or all Democrat's in 2011.

I think things are fairly strict now on CTH anyway, I rarely see some of the more problematic posts I used to that would make me take a double take and think "shit like this is gonna get it banned".

Also there had never been a rule against celebrating violence, celebrating violence is 90% of right wing thought so the right wouldn't exist anymore. None of it is a direct threat to murder specific law enforcement officials if they enforce a specific law in a specific situation though. The threats that got the Donald quarantined were extremely specific and in fact illegal and not covered by the first amendment due to their specificity and immediacy.
