You haven't seen genuine broken English then. You guys learn Spanish right, how many of you can hold a conversation in it without fucking up sentence structure or gender? That's how most people write here, they think in their own language and write in English so the end product is a mess. I was somewhat competent with basic grammar but didn't have a single literary bone in my body, I was still considered a top tier writer and the teacher would hand my essays out as a pointer on how to write. This is also incidentally why most Indian English writers of repute are diaspora.
It isn't just about wealth, quiet a few rich kids I knew were horrible in English despite consuming Western pop culture regularly. You need a certain degree of intelligence to speak a second language at par with its native speakers and intelligent people tend not to do stuff like this.
