Hong Kong doesn't have anything to lose at this point. They're like a cornered animal. If China decides to pull a gamer move on HK then the latter really can't do anything on its own to defend themselves. China won't be going scorched earth on HK so survival isn't an issue per say. But they can very easily crack down on HK and completely subdue them. The thing is, there'll be major consequences if they do.
