the racism is simply this – why do random people off the internet see fit to tell a fully trained meditation instructor of the highest calibre that he isn’t enlightened because he’s angry?
Don't get me wrong, boot for boot and dollar for dollar the Chinese are a lot weaker than most Western militaries are, no doubt. That said, I wouldn't take the Long March, i.e. a gang of barely trained peasant soldiers that were fighting before the founding of the PRC as an accurate representation of their modern military lmao
I hate to be the one to explain this to you but I don't think when OP said he wouldn't have the balls to go up against the Chinese military he was referring to their discipline and efficacy.
Yeah, I'd imagine most redditors are basically just operating off of what they learned from the first paragraph of the HK Wikipedia page and whatever their echo-chambers told them to believe
Most of Reddit will blame Russia or orangeman (same thing haha) before blaming China. The still believe China is socialist, and are terminally retarded.
A modern military doesn't need to crush anyone and they certainly won't do it in the middle of one of Asia's largest metropolises where it's guaranteed that video recordings at the very least will filter out and the event will stay in public psyche forever. Some tear gas canisters+disappearing the leaders should do it.
Eventually, they'll tank them. I expect there's some hesitance though. There's still fallout from Tiananmen decades ago, and some pretty iconic photographs that can be flung back in their face. Hong Kong is not exactly poor rural China - it's rich urbanites and a center of business. There are a cell phones and cameras everywhere. Whatever they do is going to be pretty much livestreamed to the rest of the world.
Does it care? Yes
Will it do anything? I don't know. Cynically, probably not. It hasn't done anything about any of the other awful stuff China does, but they also do a much better job about deniability there, and keeping it out of sight. If CNN and the BBC start broadcasting clips of tanks ploughing into crowds or soldiers opening fire on civilians - there will be some sort of cost associated with that. Winnie the Pooh is probably sitting in his office with a pro/con chart right now debating exactly how big that cost will be.
The West knows the Chinese economy isn't all that it's been hyped up to be. There's lots of shills saying that the Chinese miracle isn't over, but are they in for a big surprise. The world will punish China if they decide to pull another Tiananmen Square. They couldn't possibly pick a worse time to crack down on Hong Kong, as Trump's trade war rages on.
With that said, Trump, in his unbridled retardation, has kickstarted the next economic paradigm shift with his "trade" war, which is really just a front for Trump trying to damage and slow down China's economy and technological innovation. The problem with this is that Trump has created an actual dilemma in which both countries have to hold their ground and not make any concessions. Add this to the Hong Kong shitshow and we have a recipe for disaster.
If China goes all in on HK we're unironically in for a major global economic crisis. A crisis that might just happen due to Trump's trade war alone.

There's been lots of contention over the years, especially this last decade, on the accuracy of economic growth numbers provided by the Chinese government. Many economists and analysts have speculated that China has been inflating their economy numbers to hide the fact their economy is slowing down. Link / Link / Link
nobody inside of china is protesting though. tiananmen square happened because the whole country was on the brink of open dissent whereas hong kong is just a tiny city. that doesnt mean they wont use military force but it would be a much dumber decision
Hong Kong doesn't have anything to lose at this point. They're like a cornered animal. If China decides to pull a gamer move on HK then the latter really can't do anything on its own to defend themselves. China won't be going scorched earth on HK so survival isn't an issue per say. But they can very easily crack down on HK and completely subdue them. The thing is, there'll be major consequences if they do. No one really knows just how many domino pieces will fall if that happens, though the world won't be better off, that's for sure.
Production of goods is already moving to places like Thailand and Vietnam. If China went ahead and slaughtered thousands of protesters in an age where everything can be captured by just as many cellphones, you'd probably see dramatic boycotts from the developed world. China is useful but they're not indispensable.
I know that Vietnam is rising but I do wonder if the global world can boycott them. Be great if Vietnam can absorb a lot of it since they're heavily pro West.
China doesn't fuck around usually with that shit. This is the country that caused baby girls to be aborted or killed because they put in a one-child policy. They couldn't care less about turning protestors into speed bumps
I think they'll pussy out tbh, people underestimate how much power Chinese billionaires have in the government. They're not going to risk massive international boycotts over a city which now encompasses like 2% of their gdp

Those protestors are unironically brave
I would not have the balls to go at it with the Chinese military
2 Kiru-Kokujin55 2019-08-13
china's military is terrible
chinese troops in henan literally had their weapons stolen by peasants and were forced to retreat from said peasants
or the long march where the PLA lost 90% of their forces, including losing battles to rogue soldiers and untrained bandits
or when the pla lost to india in sikkim
or the battle of wuhan where the chinese had 2 million soldiers to 365,000 soldiers and suffered nearly a million casaulties compared to 30,000

I actually think the Chinese will tank them. They don't care because you know who're you gonna buy your shit from ?
It's a win win for Sinocels.

The Chinese will crush them. Reddit will try to blame America and Twitter will somehow twist the event into orange man bad.
1 ashleychudd 2019-08-13
If drumpf didn’t want them to be run over, why’d he start a trade war?
1 errderper 2019-08-13
he should have had the u.s military invade and occupy HK, stupid drumpf

Maybe chapo will blame America but most of reddit is very happy to blame China

You forget that most of reddit is around 20 and younger. I've seen people unironically ask what happened in Tiananmen Square.

Nothing.

Redditors are already calling them "Western imperialists".

China's premier, back when he was Party Secretary of Liaoning Province.
Some research on the matter
On the other hand, there's this study that makes a different claim.
Whatever the reality might be, something fishy is definitely going on with their numbers that's for sure.

And yet there will still be brainlets referring to China as a flawles utopia.
China is a shithole that lies about its economic viability, and probably is the most corrupt place on Earth, beating out reddit mods.
