It's funny. I don't have any friends. I also have never owned a cellphone, had a social media account, or played a single online game. 4chan is as close to socializing as I get, or am comfortable with getting, outside of close family get-togethers. I earn $$$ quietly and anonymously. I haven't gotten laid since 2002. And I simply do not care.
I have no pent-up anger, no depression, my social anxiety issues are minimal these days, and life is just very stress-free, beyond the stresses I intentionally cause myself.
Being around people tends to piss me off because almost no one meets my standards of excellence. It's a lot easier to study neurology and chemistry and other sciences and arts while being an unknown observer. I get to watch the way people act and react, and thus learn how the human mind works and how it relates to society and history.
For example, not many people seem to have realized that borders are to a nation what an immune system is to a body. People don't tend to make these connections because they're being interrupted by socializing.

A few steps down the road what I would like to do is when I say empower communities, I think there’s an extreme version of that, which is where we bring economics into this. Allowing communities to have business models. And hopefully you can use your imagination there, but I think there’s a lot they can do and that would open the door to communities having money and potentially moderators having a share of that. So I think we’re pretty far off, but that’s one of my, kind of, fantasies, that we can elevate communities to such a degree that people can actually run a business or earn a living on Reddit.

I've only gotten involved with others, social media and sexual situations because I'm a writer, and it's paid off quite well to have lived this way. Neuroscience is (next to physics) the biggest rabbit hole I've ever gone down. I will definitely be found dead one day but I'm not a hoarder because I want the people who find me to not pity me.
