Until I read your description I assumed it was trying to be the Classic LFG/LFR replacement too. The way you describe it sounds fine, but I think it's understandable for something that looks on its surface similar to the yool that basically was the sole reason retail is so fucked now.
A mod much like this one has been available on private servers for years called vQueue and operated the same way, it just parses chat and uses a gui to list people looking for group/more and what roles they need. Nobody lost their shit then and that population was far more concentrated with #nochanges people than the blizz release will be.

i cannot for the life of me understand people who think that they're going to be getting an authentic vanilla wow experience in 2019. the amount of resources on the internet nowadays and the overall skill level has rose so dramatically that the content is just going to be rolled over even by the shittiest classes

People sit in cities and spam the shared city chat yes. It sucked and literally nothing is lost by using the better system. Classic autists will find ways to defend anything no matter how awful it is.
One of the ways it was made better on all private servers was a faction specific world chat channel everyone used, you didn't have to stop whatever else you were doing to stand in cities to find groups. It worked pretty well minus the pivot obvious cancer of a world chat
I can't wait for the nostalgia goggles to be ripped off and the realization that these manchildren no longer are the same 15 year olds with all the free time in the world to play world of warcraft to sink in.
