these fuckers have passed half life 3 levels of Soontm at this point jesus christ i made fun of someone who said the game would be out quickly all the way back in 2015
Hey valve has been working on important things like the steam machine and a card game. How dare you mention half life 3, that's so disrespectful, valve has every right to end the series on a cliffhanger and string fans along for the decade and not even bother giving it a proper cancelation to this day or at least something final, literally it's their right to just spend a decade slowly transitioning from bs promises to saying they have nothing to say to treating its mention as a mortal insult while still not refusing to admit it isn't being developed. Because you're literally just a bunch of man children who have no internal process or workflow, just jumping from some irrelevant pet project that's never going to see the light of day or be completed to another willy nilly as you get bored with no intention of actually making a product, you struck it rich a decade ago on Steam so you literally never have to worry about shit again so you won't, you just found the perfect endlessly indulgent cuck boss who just let's you masturbate basically and had an endless cash flow from the time when they actually did with which keeps them from folding as any other company would given that level of gross mismanagement. And that's their right, no one has the right to question them or act as if their behavior towards their fans was not fully respectful and honest.
That's currently standard practice in software development, but it's usually a great way to piss of g*mers, e.g. pokemon go, that one fallout game. There's a few reasons why it hasn't caused much of an uproar among Star Citizen fans, mostly because they expected development to take a long time and most of them sunk hundreds to thousands of dollars into the game before a playable version was even available
It was barely functional when it first came out and it took like two years for it to become a fun game. Essentially there's a concept in software development called the 'minimum viable product', which is the most bare-bones thing that you can release that people are going to be satisfied with. In a lot (most?) cases releasing an MVP is the best way to go, but it falls flat with game design because people are paying up front and need all the bells and whistles to be satisfied. So these idiot game studios like Niantic follow a principle for developing run-of-the-mill software and release the game to an audience expecting a full entertainment experience and end up with a bunch of pissed off g*mers who want their heads on a pike.
How on Earth was he able to crowdfund 300 fucking million, that's just nuts.
I don't even really know what the game is. It's a space shooter and an fps and you can make a ship and it's an mmo and it has a story apparently. Like WTF, of course you're never going to release this shit, you promised a dozen different games. The game design generally just sounds like something a teenage boy would blurt out about the perfect le epic game, oh its gonna have perfect ai and your going to be able to do anything and the universe will be endless and it will have all these amazing features and game play styles and it will be epic basically.
Great games aren't made that way. Like if there are a ton of NPCs, I doubt they're going to be interesting to talk to because at the end of the day you only have so many writers, if you fill up all their time writing barks for randos out in the middle of nowhere that's all your gonna get, a bunch of randos who just have a bark. As this is an MMO I am baffled about why they are make giant promises about non humans anyway. Being an MMO practically guarantees the story will be shit and the characters forgettable. If you try shoehorn then in people will just skip that shit because they don't have time for a 15 minute cut scene, they just want to play with their friends. Multiplayer and a detailed, great story are virtually antithetical, as soon as you have humans running around teabagging each other and calling each other gamer words the immersion of your carefully constructed and curated world goes out the window and it all looks just ridiculous. Role play also is only really possible among a small group of people who know each other, a thousand randos actually all agreeing to role play for fun and obeying the spirit of the game is something that's practically unheard of.
Also they're promise of great ai, again, WTF. This is a multiplayer game, if it want great opponents play humans. Any mob enemy, no matter how great the ai, it has a weakness, it's bad at something, eventually players are going to discover it and then grind it a thousand times. It's just generally a waste of time to concentrate on AI quality, generally AI variety is more important. People like having a lot of different challenges. Honestly it makes me think they've probably committed a cardinal error, they're trying to design
and godly perfect assume AI and just dumping all their
and into that, and they're going to put that AI on nearly every enemy. What that means is that every enemy will have the same behavior basically. Maybe it really will be brilliant, the first time players see it they'll just get bushwacked and say a few gamer words about how it cheated. Then eventually they'll discover what it's stupid at, something the developers hasn't taken into consideration, and then it's over, you're just doing that over and over again forever every time you meet an enemy.
Gamers don't want smart AI. They don't want to see some carefully constructed trap the game developers spent forever putting together that totally takes 99% of them off guard. What they really want, is for it to not just do the same shit over and over again, they hate the repititio. That's honestly what's the most fun about playing with humans, they always are trying new shit, your can't predict them. That's just something your AI script is never going to do, it's not going to be creative, no matter how many if else conditions you throw in you can't change this. Better to just come up with as many different, simple, fun strategies as you can possibly think of, for each different enemy, and program a different ai script for each.
In general western game developers have spent the past decade just trying to pander as much as possible to power fantasies. Nuh in, I wanna be able to do whatever I want! The problem is that developers only have so much time, they can only account for so many possible states. The number of states the player can possibly be in has vastly increased. And in response the number of states the game world and NPCs can be in, bad vastly decreased. I want to be able to make my own character because I don't want to be a woman! Great, I guess we could design an entire game for you. Or maybe we could make the entire game world react to you as a black slate because you could literally be anyone. Waahhhh! I want to be able to go anywhere at any time! Great, fantastic. I guess the writers could write a special story just for you that takes into account your own beautiful and unique journey wherever you want. Or maybe the just introduce level upscaling and now restrict themselves to writing stories that can be completed in any order, and so logically can't have any real bearing on each other or any large scale consequences.
Your increasing GAMER freedom and decreasing the freedom of the developer and the game world. You wind up wind up with grind fests, that take place in a world where your can do anything but none of it really matters, and you can be anyone, so you're treated like nobody.
Sometimes, I read /r/eve complaining, and I think it's over for evecels. But they have it good compared to some. It never even began for Star Citizen, literally.

According to some comment, they released an extremely barebones version of the game while still developing it. Which is a little shocking tbh.
