I seriously do not understand the appeal of TCGs in general. Spend hundreds of dollars a year only for the deck you painstakingly constructed to be outdated when the meta shifts/a new ban list comes out. Other expensive games like 40k I can sorta get because you can at least paint non-meta pieces to look cool, but TCGs just have pieces of cardboard.

Only a very small subset of the player base does this.
Sure TCG cost money, but MTG: Arena and Hearthstone don't require you to spend anything if you just want to log in and play some quests, get gold and eventually open a pack or two.
40k people are worse than MTG players imo
At least we don't try to display our wares in our house as if somehow miniatures are something that you should be proud enough to put on display.
Online TCGs are in a different category all together IMO, admittedly when it comes to online tcgs i can only really talk about hearthstone because thats the only one i played and not digital MTG games so theres that.
I wont argue about annoying 40k players. Its just that i get the appeal of it more but thats likely because i like wargaming more than TCGs.
Between this and the spam posting that "Dev's don't listen to me!!!! *cries*" in /r/hearthstone there's so much good drama going on in the TCG scene right now.
Yeah though HS is legit retarded. The game is basically impossible to play free to play and the devs never add anything cool to the game other than the cards. Where the fuck is the tourney or custom modes? It's been like 5 years.
Me and my friends really were looking forward to tournament mode as casual players, cause we all play Magic the Gathering together once a month and this would have been awesome.
I still don't get why it's so difficult for the HS to implement.
It's not, they're doing what's called drip feed development. They keep us on a fishing line slowly tugging us in. They make millions, it would take 5 minutes to put this shit in.
Nah the retards in r/hearthstone are firmly in the counterjerk stage where they suck Dev dick about random tiny things "the devs rly put in thought into making this fun interaction can we thank the devs" and (unironically) "at least HS has this 1 thing better than MTG arena!!!"
Wizards of the Coast, the maker of Magic, announced a new game format that will allow you to play with an expanded set of cards, and then doubled the cost to create the cards. Also, you can only buy packs using gems, and the fastest way to get gems is to buy them with real money. So they're all up in arms.

Jesus, I went to play for the first time in like 10 years about 8 months ago and one dude REEKED of cat piss.
1 jimmerz28 2019-08-30
You really only find top shelf personas at MTG game nights/tournaments.
1 TSwizzlesNipples 2019-08-30
That's how that one dude got banned for 18 months lol
1 jimmerz28 2019-08-30
That's the only thing non-MTG players know about the game.

Still one of the best reddit posts of all time, IMO.

I quit that game devs are unironically trash
1 jimmerz28 2019-08-30
They're literally (some of) the same devs.
Wizards took quite a few of the Hearthstone devs away from Blizzard awhile ago.
1 FearOfBees 2019-08-30
Oh, that makes sense...

Magic does group therapy now?
1 elephantofdoom 2019-08-30
I get to not care because I gave up on that game after it froze 6 times in 3 hours.

The client is much better now. Still has a nasty memory leak though.
