i remember deleting this app off my ipod touch in 2011 because it was a retarded waste of space. that's the last i heard of it until a few months ago, where apparently it's been festering and creating it's own ecosystem all this time
subs like r/averageredditor, which admittedly is pretty funny, are apparently run by ifunny users? any community that makes fun of reddit has my attention, but i just redownloaded it and it's still r/funny tier cancer. have i fallen for elaborate bait? insights appreciated

The reason you are seeing all the r/funny cringe is because you are on the surface level app. You have to dig to find the real community. I can give you a list of accounts to sub to to start to find the real community.

Some edgy teenagers on iFunny got mad at reddit for it's (admittedly cringy) superiority complex. They made a community called /r/bruhfunny which is basically an outpost of iFunniers who want to bully/make fun of redditors where they can see it.
The humor is pretty edgy and juvenile but was pretty funny seeing them make fun of redditors. Eventually they founded a specialized subreddit for making fun of redditors, /r/averageredditor, which quickly got overrun by MDE style reddit rightoids, rather than the edgy zoomer ifunny rightoids.
Apparently /r/bruhfunny got quarantined because one of it's members tried to doxx a journalist. All in all, pretty unhinged group, but they make fun of redditors so they're cool.
