The probe never crashed on the moon as was originally intended. They lost contact in 2012 and believed it was successful in crashing, but it was detected in orbit in 2016.
India now acknowledges that they were wrong about it landing, but claim Chandrayaan-2 successfully crash landed on the moon, but most people remain skeptical.
