Due to impending litigation for issuing securities without approval, Kik is going to shut down. To make a long story short, Kik decided to issue a cryptocoin to raise operating funds. While they did some due diligence, and asked the Canadian SEC if what they were selling were securities. The Canadian SEC said "Yes, these are securities", and Kik promptly did not sell securities in Canada, but still sold in the US. The American SEC, found out and thus the litigation.

In further dramatic happenings, the CEO, under great stress and influence of alcohol, drunkenly texted that he quit.

If Kik sound familiar, it's because they were the entity that precipited the leftpad fiasco, where after trying to bully a developer to change the name of a package of his, "Kik", they went to NPM/Node corporate and had them change the the name of the package. The developer rage-quit, and deleted all of his npm packages, including "leftpad" which almost every other node package had as a dependency.

I guess we really should have stuck with IRC.
