my whole life i was told that the Godfather is some great movie that i need to see. i saw it for the first time a year or two ago and i hated it. it's so boring and long.
no way is the Godfather better than Infinity War or Civil War or Ant-Man
Yeah these motherfuckers just have 0 comprehension of anything that doesn’t have bright colors and catchphrases. How the fuck can you not enjoy The Godfather if you have an attention span better than a 16 year old
I personally think The Godfather is overrated (I still like it, I just don't put it in that upper-upper tier of greatest films ever) but hooooly shit loool. Like, its got to be one of the most watchable three hour movies ever made.
Just think of the sheer number of movies you place off limits for yourself when The Godfather is "boring"
On a scale of 1 to 10, how far up your ass is your thumb? Don’t even think about answering below a 7, because that would be a lie. You may have enjoyed Leto’s performance better but everyone else here knows damn well that statistically, evidently, and factually that Heath Ledger’s Joker was better acted, written, and designed, and was in a far better movie. That’s it. If you want to waste your time doing a study to answer a question that we can answer for you, go ahead and prove yourself wrong. If not, then just shut the hell up. If you like to have an opinion although you know most people will disagree then you can keep it to yourself, but since you chose not to, the jokes being made about you being wrong are on you, so cut the shit with criticizing people for joking about your trash opinion.
Coppola probably knows that he's got nothing real to offer anymore so he just sits there like "muh godfather!" and smugly sniffs his own farts about how weak superhero movies are.
You can pretty much pick any Scorsese gangster flick and I'll agree it's better than The Godfather, but to say it's not a masterpiece is one of the stupidest things imaginable
Good? What the fuck are you smoking? That's worse than any Marvel film released. It took one of Michael Crichton's best books, and shat all over it. The gorilla suit was fake as hell, they mixed the two tribes mentioned to be at war in the book together, they never explained why the white gorillas were aggressive which was a major plot point in the book, and the search for diamonds for supercomputers was dumbed down into being a search for diamonds for superlasers. They didn't even include the best scene from the book: the night time battle against the un-gorillas.
We've had a lot of great movies this year, I liked Joker and Endgame to get the capeshit out of the way, Parasite, Midsommar, Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, El Camino, Climax, Us, John Wick 3, and with stuff like The Lighthouse and Uncut Gems the next coming months are looking good.
This year has been good, surprisingly. It's the first time in a while i can name a lot of good movies I've seen, and we still have a few more like Honey Boy and Marriage Story coming.
Rocketman
The Peanut Butter Falcon
The Lighthouse
Joker
Parasite
Toy Story 4
Glass(its better than fucking Congo)
Midsommar
Ad Astra
El Camino
Hobbs and Shaw(felt like an 80s or 90s Arnold movie)
The elitism and pretentiousness is just annoying. The whole notion of "real cinema" is ridiculous just like "real art" or "real music". People like different things, not everyone wants realism in their movies all the time and just want to escape for 2-3 hours. The fact that the success and popularity of marvel bothers these people so much is hilarious, especially when they try to disguise it as an act against the art of film, when really it's thinly-veiled animosity at how successful these films are box-office wise (looking at you Jennifer Aniston).
and Scorsese fucked up Infernal Affairs with that shit ending and I'll stand by that.
The content of James Gunn’s message contrasted with a CGI render of a talking raccoon and a tree person is A1. Also it’s been weird to watch James Gunn be forced to transform his attitude after the firing and rehiring, seems like Disney told him he had to avoid making any statements that could possibly be construed as edgy
When was the last time Coppola made a film? He should be out there directing instead of complaining about how everyone likes the forgettable popcorn trash of the day.
You know, James Gunn isn't even wrong. Capeshit is basically equivalent to cowboyshit, fredoshit, as well as spaceshit, just adapted for modern normies.
And just like cowboyshit, fredoshit, and spaceshit, 99% of it is worthless garbage.
I can't say I disagree. I watched 12 Years a Slave and I thought it was way overrated. The ending was the most anticlimactic thing I've seen in my life tbh.
Marvel isn't the cause of the dearth of "serious" films in theaters. It's a symptom of the underlying cause: Hollywood's bizarre obsession with the blockbuster. Hollywood has almost completely, with the exception of Blum house, stopped releasing small and mid-range budget films into theatres. Instead, they seem to think that every film can be a blockbuster. This strategy has led to films either breaking the bank or breaking the budget. You can't do dramatic, depressing films in this environment. A serious character study is culturally specific, and doesn't translate well to international audiences.
one problem is that the movie budget nowadays is almost inconsequential, because even if you make 20 million dollar flick, 70-100+ million dollars will go into marketing it, so why bother doing that and pray to get even, when capeshit is almost always profitable at only slightly higher price

Its not about if the movies are good or not babe.. Its about wanting some variety in the theater lol
These films have a right to exist, I just wish folks were more willing to throw the money and talent behind original scripts otherwise.
I'd like to see marvel release a movie like 12 years a slave, yknow -- let's see what they can do for real.
6 ImHereForTheBussy 2019-10-20
implying Black Panther wasn't more powerful and interesting than 12 years a slave 😏
