I would like if we'd actually have an actual movie industry and movies hadn't just become an odd medium that superhero stories (and nothing else) are distributed in for some reason.

I don't even understand why both sides are sniping at each other so hard. Hundreds of films are being released every year with similar numbers being made and produced at the same time. These include every genre of film you can imagine. One type is definitely not stifling any other type. Do the spectacle movies make more money than the artsy films? Well yeah, duh. It's not rocket science of course they will. I mean if you expect your slow, tormented character study to be the feel good blockbuster of the year you might be one who's deluded here.
Joker is pretty much the first nail in the coffin, in my opinion, for MCU nerds. It's been sort of done before with Nolan's Batman, but not to the extent that Joker goes in showing that comic book movies can stand up to the best of the best. When I saw Joker, I could faintly see another movie under the layers of the clown, but nothing like what I imagined. I pictured a masterpiece under the guise of a comic book movie in order to sell tickets, but what I got was a decent but fairly unoriginal screenplay turned into something really special because of comic books
Marvel gonna have to step their shit up because DC is gonna start churning these sort of movies out like its going out of style. Letting a director just do whatever the fuck they want, I mean. Prepare for a movie about The Question within five years
