Dinosaur π¦ of the month: Liliensternus
115 2019-10-21 by Cdace
Liliensternus is a fearsome carnivorous dinosaur of the Triassic period. Moreover, this is a close relative of other early theropods like Coelophysis and Dilophosaurus was one of the largest predators of its time, with long, five-fingered hands, an impressive head crest, and a bipedal posture that must have allowed it to reach respectable speeds in pursuit of prey. It probably fed on relatively small, herbivorous dinosaurs like Sellosaurus and Efraasia. It is from the wetlands of Western Europe in what is now known as Germany. It lived around 210 million years ago, during the Upper Triassic period. It is one of the best studied and identified European dinosaurs and also one of the largest European theropods.
It is estimated to have grown up to 5.15 m long and weighed around 200 kilograms. The femur is approximately 440 mm and is longer than the tibia, which is 409 mm. The Liliensternus' hip bone is unusually short. This is just like the Dilophosaurus. The specimen has only two fused sacral vertebrae and sutures on the neurocenter are visible on the vertebrae. This suggests that the fossils either belonged to a young or sub adult dinosaur.
Though from different eras it is believed that the German Liliensternus is not a big fan of the Judiceratops

Would it win in a fight vs a tiger?

Triassic is easily the lamest period in Earth History. The only cool creatures were in the water

I didnβt have time to do it properly with my classes this month. It might be late November or December before I have time to do a good one

You're not the dinosaur man for me anymore.
1 Cdace 2019-10-21
π I need to do well in engineering in order to bring the dinosaurs π¦ back
2 LightUmbra 2019-10-21
Are you in some dumb engineering field like Civil or Industrial or a Chad field like Chemical or Electrical engineering.
2 Cdace 2019-10-21
My parents told me to do what what I love. Since I love pissing people off, I decided to be civil engineer. No better way to piss people off than by fucking up their drive.

What is he trying to tell us??? Also the dino looks pretty cool despite the kinda dorky crest on its head.
1 Kellere31 2019-10-21
It's impossible for the Liliensternus to have killed 6000000 Judiceratops. There erent even 6000000 of those in the jurassic time!
1 MzCherryBlossom 2019-10-21
It looks kinda cute for a Dino
1 dogDroolsCatsRules 2019-10-21
Lmao, imagine liking a dino who got killed by global warming of all things.
1 duckraul2 2019-10-21
The Triassic was pretty ruff ok, average temperatures were about 25 C, so give the little guy a break. There were continental deserts so large and low lying we don't have any modern analog, which is one reason the permian-triassic red rocks of the American southwest are so enigmatic to geologists.
2 dogDroolsCatsRules 2019-10-21
That's pretty cool, but it doesn't help. It still died to the trias jurrasic extinction and thus global warming. Like a loser.
3 duckraul2 2019-10-21
Uh he actually died to the humidity because it's the humidity that kills ya not the heat as people say
1 IHeartCommyMommy 2019-10-21
The fuck is that in American?
1 duckraul2 2019-10-21
About 75F, which doesn't sound bad, but currently have a mean of like 60F so it's way worse than it sounds
1 pewkiemuffinboo 2019-10-21
it's so cute!

This dinosaur looks kind of stoned. And just (((who))) is that controlling this strong "Aryan" creature?
May I make a request for a future dinopost? I was at the Field Museum a few days ago and ran into an old friend of mine. Even though it's not technically a dinosaur, could you do Dimetrodon?
1 istural 2019-10-21
I want weekly Dino posts please
1 Cdace 2019-10-21
I ainβt got time for that unfortunately π
