What would you call Dying Fetus? They seem like such a professional outfit; groove-oriented, modest bit of technicality, really good pacing in most albums, very nice production that isn’t too artificial (IMO).
I’d almost go so far as to say that only hipster metal fans and black metal-cels could get nothing from them. Maybe that’s it tho, I think they are nice boys that do well, but I can’t say they would hit my top 10.
Ive just recently taken a liking to them and i will play them for my non-metal friends and they seem to really fucking like them. Like i was out the other day and this normie chick friend of mine asked me to turn it on, in public. I think the attraction is that most people have a concept of what "death metal" is supposed to sound like and is surprised when something like dying fetus comes on and it fills the proverbial niche, but then also sounds really fun and interesting.
Wow. I think that is it. For some reason I assumed they were edgy grind core for the longest time so I avoided them, but this album in particular is pretty fucking good.
Definitely fills a niche. I think that’s what gave me the “professional” vibe. They know what people expect and deliver exactly that, even if they aren’t the most interesting/talented/whatever death metal group out there.
I mostly like really wanky or prog shit, and I’m still sort of a meta noob. Gorod, Origin, Necrophagist, Decapitated (older albums), Gojira, Death, Spawn of Possession, Martyr, Nile, Between the Buried and Me, Obscura, Alkaloid, Blotted Science...Some Opeth...Idk. Lots of shit is good.
I don’t care that much for the studio album, maybe because of this, but this is one of the best live performances I’ve ever seen, including all of my Jazz shit.
