This might come as a shock to you, but I do not care about your opinions, your ignorance or failure to comprehend the research, or what you believe. The only thing I care about, and I can not stress this enough, is what the empirical research says. And it says you are wrong.
Your personal opinion? worth as much as a pile of dog shit on the sidewalk to me. That is the absolute extent to which I care about what you think. This is where I stopped reading. I do not entertain the economic illiteracy of far leftists or far right-wing tards.
Both are equally misinformed on average, both are failures.
It's 100% cope. Loosing one of the five senses is a very debilitating illness and a lot of disableoids cope with how shitty their lives have become by pretending that it's not an issue at all. Yet they can't go to any movie, concert, or really do anything else without someone having to shoot out magical runes from their hands to make them understand what's happening.
Even though most deaf people don’t go that far, a large number of them strongly believe that it isn’t a real disability. I guess if you mostly only interact with other deaf people (which is usually true for them) it might be easy to convince yourself of that, but it’s pretty obviously universally disadvantageous.
With Aspies I would argue that although there are many obvious drawbacks, there are a few advantages that if applied right can be very useful especially if all the other issues can be minimized ( maybe that’s just aspie cope from me though). They also forget how severely autistic some people are most of the time.
The real reason is because sign language isn’t some archaic undeveloped language system with like 26 words, it’s a full blown language with its own grammar rules and idioms. Even though Spanish Sign Language is very different from American Sign Language, which is very different from Mexican Sign Language, it’s still an independent, unwritten language in its own right.
Imagine if someone came up to you, a deafcel, who has been a native speaker of ASL for their entire life, and whose very identity and being revolves around speaking to fellow deaf people in your own language. They tell you that your entire system of communication is shitty and bunk and will die when people begin to hear again. You know it’s true, but you’d still feel a bit shitty.
I had a friend whose brother was deaf and I remember when cochlear implants were brought up while I was hanging out at his house. He said that he wouldn’t mind if deafness was cured but hoped that ASL would serve another purpose.
I agree 100% that Sign Language is a real language, and there probably are some unique uses to it (the fact that it isn't heard makes it useful for certain purposes). What puzzles me is when people can't admit that there are certain advantages that come with hearing, like being able to communicate without seeing each other, using phones, and being able to warn people of danger when you can't immediately reach them.
Language forms culture, it's not surprising that deaf people feel that they have their own separate culture. It's just batshit to not think that being deaf is a disability.
I vant believe there are actually people who compare curing genetic diseases with eugenics and want to 'build a world suitable for disabled people' instead of just fucking curing them...
That’s literally what a cochlear implant is, though the process of using them is shitty and painful for a while, since your ears are basically that of a newborns. Most end up only using them occasionally for concerts and stuff.
It makes sense when you consider that the deaf community has its own distinct language; that's a huge factor in forming a strong group identity, especially if it's a minority language in the area. The sense of shared identity and relative alienation from mainstream America makes it easy to understand why they would be afraid of changes. It may not be right, but it's understandable, particularly given that people who are born deaf may not be able to perceive how deafness is actually disabling given how easy it is to live without hearing (especially if one goes to a school for the deaf and has deaf friends and/or family)
Yeah but it's retarded. They don't want their children being able to hear because they'll lose their culture but the same thing has happened with their own parents. If a deaf family having a hearing kid will lead to cultural genocide then a hearing family having a deaf kid is too.
The hypocrisy of it all is that the crazies in the deaf community argue that it is bigoted if hearing parents don't want to learn sign language for their deaf child (tbf it is shitty) but vehemently deny that deaf (or even hearing) parents should give their children access to hearing through things like cochlear implants or this gene editing stuff.
Deaf people are the quintessential "misery loves company" group. They will verbally attack a mom who does everything she can to help her kid hear better, because they want the poor kid to be just as bad as they are but mask it as "the kid is part of the community!"
Why do people forget that the bad part of eugenics is that you kill people and don't let people have children that they want? Improving the gene pool with zero coercion or downside is completely divorced from what makes eugenics bad.

The deaf community got chads damn. Maybe that’s why they don’t see deafness as a disability

People have built whole identities around being deaf and they feel attacked if you change it

What?
1 ManBearFridge 2019-10-24
It's bizarre but, but true. There is a subset of deaf people who feel like curing deafness is somehow an attack on their culture or something.
Kind of similar to some aspies being against gene therapy to their burgers.
Or, ahem, ((trannies))^

Yeah it’s really unusual. A lot of people in the dead community will deny and even be hostile towards the idea that it is a disability.

Deafoids don't know what they're missing out on. Give them a single day with functional ears and I guarantee they'd never want to go back.

Just stick a pencil in each of your ears. You can even reuse the same pencil.
