Is ethical, or even legal, to fire someone because they might violate a Code of Conduct? Even if it hasn't even been implemented yet (basically a futurecrime), and the person in question has in every way conducted themselves honorably? Guess how "progressive" Silicon Valley is

A traditional religious Jew was recently fired from Stack Overflow as a moderator out of concern that she would not abide by an upcoming change to their code of conduct requiring the use of preferred pronouns when referring to a transsexual. By all accounts, she has been an exemplary moderator, hasn't committed any transgression, and had merely asked a few questions to clarify the change. The community is all behind her and upset at Stack Overflow.
