He definitely "punched down" at rape victims and trans people. There was no punchline that brought any of it back around. No familiar "fuck you I got kids to feed" or acknowledgement of what he was saying. He just punched down at people who are already victimized and left it at that. He used to seem self aware about who or what he was punching.

Comedians who punch up can be funny. Comedians who punch down are lazy and scraping the barrel. That's my main complaint. He punched down and some people want to act like it's brilliant.

Exactly. Laziness is the problem. The best comedy to me punches up, is self reflective, or is tongue in cheek offensive.
