It wasn't because he was just called super homo. He got damages because he was passed off for promotion because he was too flamboyant. From the article:
“way too out there with his gayness and he needed to tone it down if he wanted a white shirt [be promoted]”.
Why is that in nottheonion? Are people surprised there are cops that aren't terribly in fucking Missouri, or are they just surprised the courts actually did something about it?
I used to intercept wireless phone conversations with a police scanner back before cellphones and before wireless headsets went digital and encrypted. One night we intercepted someone attempting gay phone sex through some sort of 1-900-xxx-xxxx party line (this was also before the internet was a big thing).
You would be AMAZED at the amount of homosexual cops there were on it, trying to get all nasty in my ear. It was like half the people on the party line (some were probably larping).
No one should ever give these people handcuffs, ever

What did the officer even do wrong? Gayness isn't even a slur and also our speech is pretty protected.

That's a legitimate concern though he has to take it seriously

"Dude Jerk" was a little too on the nose of the writers.

Why aren’t those people supporting a proud gay man discriminated against by a homosexual black chief of police?

For idpol niggers ACAB > gay people but I bet if this nigga was trans they'd be sucking his ladydique. Weird hierarchy they've got going on here. Also
I'm sure this isn't original but I haven't seen it before and it made me kek.
