He ignored the term limits and illegally ran again, then when votes started coming in and it was clear he was going to lose he just shamelessly changed the numbers. The election observers pointed out it was a fraud, there were massive protests for weeks. When the army refused to crack down on the protestors he had no choice but to resign.
