It's odd to hear because I'm fairly fit and muscular (well, was, just had foot surgery 3 months ago and basically have not been able to be physically active let alone lift weights), but I'm also reasonably progressive on many issues and I'm also at MS/almost PhD level of education, but I dress more like a country bumpkin than a part of the intelligentsia. Since I rub elbows with very left/educated people frequently I encounter this general sentiment frequently.
