It's a Linux build with a whole bunch of offensive security tools built in like nmap and metasploit. Fun shit but be careful you could actually break serious laws if not paying attention.
I mean kali isn't even meant for daily usage. You can install all of those t o o ls on any distro, and kali is meant to be booted into a live environment.
I can multiboot any chromeos, any linux distro, windows and macos
(why would I ever want to?) on all of mine. Now, of course that's beyond the technical capabilities of most average users.
But is can be done, and that's important. I'm usually just working in ChromiumOS, since I trying to help make it work.
NetSec Professionals mainly use it to properly and thoroughly check for known vulnerabilities fairly automatically. There are some "toy" features that let you think you're an elite white hat but it's mostly parlour tricks of telling your dinner hosts what their WiFi password is instead of asking them.
But it actually is one of the faster Linux builds for regular people because it doesn't start too many services unless you tell it to, and that usually involves getting into the deep kernels (code that tells the OS what to to do when).
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX. Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Who uses it? What for?
1 The_Great_I_Am_Not 2019-11-15
People use it for really extreme security issue or extreme paranoia.
Just get a Chromebook, and live a life of joy.
1 HodorTheDoorHolder_ 2019-11-15
Why a Chromebook?
1 The_Great_I_Am_Not 2019-11-15
Faster, more security, best build devices (in the high end, as in the Pixel, Dell, Acer and Asus)
The wave of the future.
1 HodorTheDoorHolder_ 2019-11-15
Never heard of them. Can you type emails, PowerPoint and watch porn?
1 The_Great_I_Am_Not 2019-11-15
Yes you can. But you can't play video games.
1 HodorTheDoorHolder_ 2019-11-15
That’s not a problem.
1 Kaladin_MemeBlessed 2019-11-15
You dumb faggot stop recommending more retards use kali linux
1 The_Great_I_Am_Not 2019-11-15
I'm not recommending it, 97% of people can only computers/internet because they can press a power button and a pretty little icon on a screen.
They'd never make it beyond step 1 in installing and using Kali.

Shitty meme tbh,

A new Chromebook Pixel makes the Macbook Pro look like a child's toy, both in terms of build quality and software interaction (UI).

Which from a hardware/device standpoint is a nice thing.
If only it didn't run Windows.

I use it professionally on occasion. The "lite" can front boot on almost any rig if you have physical access. It's fucking amazing.

Can you side boot easily off of a thumb drive? If so then I know my next toy
1 The_Great_I_Am_Not 2019-11-15
Easily? No. But Yes.
1 Whaddaulookinat 2019-11-15
Well my usual goal is to front load say servers or desktops in order to preserve and copy for sandboxing. So ease is a huge plus for me.
1 The_Great_I_Am_Not 2019-11-15
Well, one of the bigger problems that we are working on is being able to transfer sandboxed issues to the other operating systems.
Making it as easy as possible, while also maintaining the security is big hangup.
1 The_Great_I_Am_Not 2019-11-15
If you can afford it, but the top of the line Pixel, second best is Acer 514. Trust me.
