When I was a teenager weirdly I used to use arguments like this, I don't think I really understood the nature of sexual predation at the time and I was interested in criminal justice reform growing up in the still quite crazy post 90s environment when prevailing opinion was insanely punitive. Also gave me an opportunity to be contrarian.
Later on I grew up and realized that sexual predators were quite bad, and much more common than I'd thought, and that this probably wasn't such a good use of my time. In those days I read books about mental health and reform and thought that was a great idea. Slowly I realized that a lot of these psychologists don't really know what they're doing. Most supposed reform programs are just a couple of untested ideas that sound nice that a good pulled out of his ass. If there is a way to "cure" pedophiles, they do not know it.
And I'm not even sure that treating a predelection towards serial child rape as a mental illness, certainly a single one, is even super helpful. Like a lot of child rapists probably aren't even driven by attraction, they just realize that children are easy targets who can't fight back and often can in fact quickly be pressured into obedience and silence. Even if you castrate them they'll go on doing it because it was never about getting a nut to them.
A lot of medical treatments are just a set of symptoms doctors don't have any idea of the actually underlying cause, or even if it is in fact a unified disease. With more research it might be split into several conditions. And in psychology virtually every illness is this, just a set of symptoms. We created an illness with the symptom of sexual attraction towards children? But they shouldn't pretend as if they really understand and can treat it, like this stuff should still be deep in the research level, instead they're just talking to pedos a bunch and guessing that they're good now and the experiment is releasing them back into society. Good job.
Tbh I think discovering reddit probably was also part of it, being a contrarian soon loses its novelty here because there are so many weird contrarians. I think it's my generation, we're just full of weird contrarians reacting against all of boomerdom. Plus all the pedos now are in fact the people rule us.

It's weird that pedophilia is talked of as an action, like technically it's a mental disease, child rape is the action. One can lead to the other, but there are definitely examples of child rape by non pedophiles, like in the orgy of victory savage and undisciplined armies often have been known to rape whatever is there, children, elderly women. They don't have a mental disease where they are exclusively attracted to elderly women, it is an act of extreme humiliation towards the enemy to demonstrate that nothing is off limits, with their buddies they consider it hilarious to be raping this hideously unattractive grandmother.
Anyway this usage of Pedophile as a term is weird, it's like prison sex rules, a friendly guy gives you a cigarette, then suddenly you have to pay it back and your aggressively coerced you into giving head, if you give him head your officially a gay and literally a part of his property which he can trade at will.
Its just childish, yes I understand that people just want to quickly slap shameful labels on someone, but the assumption that every act of rape is somehow driven by irresistible lust towards whatever the rapist is raping is unhelpful and inaccurate.
