Well tbh for a long time in American history coastal elite wasn't restricted to one political leaning or another, like there is no other way to describe William F Buckley except as a coastal elite and he had a hugely fundamental hand in reshaping the basis of conservatism in the late 60s and early 70s, giving us basically what everyone thinks of when they say 'conservative' in the modern sense. It's only been relatively recent that the Republican party made an effort to message on that phrase and try to make it apply strictly to left leaning 'elites', to, apparently, some degree of success.

I think the term "coastal elite" gets misused and used too broadly. Coastal elites are business owners with money who own property and businesses in cities, not faggots who commute for an hour each way and come home to an apartment they pay rent for each month. For a little fun fact, Sacha Baron Cohen actually went to school to learn how to be a clown, and one that he EXCELS at is the "yellow clown".
