That entire subreddit is a cesspool. It's like a sewer that empties directly into a stagnant pond.

Okay, so first of all, you've just made a reply to me that is in two unrelated parts. The first is unrelated to anything I said. As long as you comport yourself in this manner, you will only be met with derision. It is a nonsense method of communication.

This is unironically a masterpiece

Yeah it's a pretty brilliant idea and well executed.

Very loosely related to the link, I have a confession: I never got the point of art. I don't know whether I am on the spectrum but whenever someone talks about art or show me something art related my brain shuts down. I cannot comprehend why people like it, why everyone is so interested in it. I know I have emotions but I never get art, they don't evoke any emotions in me. And I tried to get into it, visiting museums and browsing art forums etc., from classical paintings to modern art, from technological art to sculpture. But all seemed so pointless. I hope I am not alone in this.

So you can't even look at a nice painting and be appreciate the skill behind it? Or is it just you don't get motifs and themes and all that gay shit

I think I can appreciate the skill and labor behind it. However I also think "why would you waste your time creating this?". As I said, I just don't see the point. It seems so useless and meaningless. If people didn't do art, if art wasn't a thing I wouldn't miss anything. It's the opposite for science and philosophy tho. I can live in a world where people don't do art but science and philosophy are way too important to lose. It's probably my inner autist.

"why would you waste your time creating this?"

Because you enjoy the process, the final result, all the people appreciating your work.

While I suppose in a way science has done more to advance humanity, art, in a broader sense than just paintings and sculptures, has been very intertwined with human culture - from architecture and clothing to ads, cars, UI design and so on. Art that has no other function besides being an object to look at is just a purified form of the former. And all because we're creatures that like aesthetics. If you genuinely don't care how something looks and never chose something because it was prettier, maybe you're actually missing something that enables one to judge beauty.

Literal cavemen appreciated art being unable to do so is kinda autistic or maybe retarded

Do you feel the same way about music or literature?

You might just be overthinking the "purpose" of it. If I overanalyze any purely creative work for its practical purpose, it starts to seem pointless and contrived. When I look at art I appreciate, it immediately evokes emotion. It conveys energy, spirit, and elements of the human experience without having to put any of it into coherent thoughts.

I like music but not very fond of literature. In the last five years the only literature piece I read is Elmore Leonard's two books but they probably don't have much artistic value anyways. I tried reading Proust but got bored around page five. It's not exactly has to do with usefulness too. I mentioned philosophy and science in my comment above, however I don't like them because they are useful. I like them because they are entertaining and thought provoking. Even if they had no use value I would engage with them.

You're probably not autistic then lol. Everyone's just got different interests. Not everyone connects with all forms of creative media .
