Imagine believing Souht Park is reactionary in any way. What does reactionary even mean btw? They were/are openly libertarian/classical liberal and that's about it.
Have you actually seen people say that? My philosophy buddy who’s more an anarchist actually called communists reactionary and I was like Jesus pretty much anyone can be a reactionary now
It was more of a rhetorical question. I know what reactionary means, I quite liked Mark Lilla's book too. But it lost its meaning thanks to retards on internet just like every other political term.
That movie explicitly took the position that all the shit America does is necessary. That America's victims deserved it, and that while collateral damage was unfortunate, you needed protectors bold enough to be willing to accept it.
They’re just mad that we invaded Iraq and accidentally destabilized the Middle East. Iraq, Syria and Iran were peaceful nations before the United States bullied Saddam into massacring his own people, starting a war with Iran because he thought they would be an easy target, and attempting to assassinate the president of the United States.
When did Saddam try to assassinate the president? I don't recall Iraq fucking with the USA at all before we went over there, aside from that dude throwing a shoe at Bush.
My takeaway is that it it paints imperialism as an unfortunate necessity. That the methods America uses are to be condemned, but that their influence is necessary for a peaceful world
America isn't necessary for a peaceful world, it is necessary for an interesting world with good movies. Imagine a world without American war movies, Vietnam War movies, 80s murdering generic commie movies and Middle Eastern war movies. The final redpill is realising that everything America does is to provide material for Hollywood.
I thought this would be about child porn or some boomer comic but nope
> The South Parks jackasses are complete reactionaries who are spectacularly wrong about things in the smuggest ways possible, and then they wisely stroke their chins after vomiting their low IQ garbage all over the place.
Imagine being a redditor and calling anything "low IQ"
> Yeah, I love South Park but Parker + Stone's politics are a mess. Reactionaries with a libertarian veneer. You can see how they influenced a generation of "South Park Republicans", people who's entire political worldview is that they should be allowed to say the N-word.
> These people tried to be centrists about wars of aggression. "Maybe just don't invade other countries, murder their populations, and ruin the region" was too goddamn complicated for them. Truly intelligent people - in Matt and Trey's minds - need to find nuance, even where none exists.
> Yeah, everyone remembers the funny bits with them blowing up Egypt and Paris, because it genuinely is great satire of American intervention.
> But the bit where they go on to defend that is just... it's too absurd to really stick. Everyone forgets it.
"it's a great satire until it disagrees with me"
> Definitely rewatch.
> It was definitely satirizing them, don't get me wrong. But by the end, it had circled back to a centrist "well this sucks, but whatcha gonna do? Someone's gotta do this stuff" position.
> Seriously, just watch it. And remember that the people who wrote this are the same people who came up with the manbearpig garbage in the first place, implying people are alarmists for caring about climate change.
Bring back pinging this guy is great
> He is right you know. Or can you prove that he isn’t? I also find the message from that movie quite disturbing.
> You can still appreciate the satire that the interventionism is done in a very messy way; but in the end they still support it - and I really have an issue with that.
> The worst part is that when I watched the movie I kind of agreed with them, because the speech is actually quite smart. But now I don’t agree with it at all anymore.
"Yikes! A movie that says that conservatives and liberals are both necessary because conservatives are dicks and liberals are pussies? Clearly it's justifying violence"
> Fucking A!
> South Park has turned a generation of people into mindless "bOtH sIdEs!!! wHaT eVeR hApPeNeD tO CriTiCaL tHiNkIng?!?!" mantra repeating bitches. Take the downvotes as a point of pride and proof that South Park fans are, like Trey and Matt themselves, happy to talk about freedom of speech and the right to mock and criticize anything, so long as it isn't their own sacred cows. Then it's downvote city and/or shouting you down.
> They also wrote extremely transphobic episodes.
"Akshaully South Park doesn't make fun of sacred cows, STOP MAKING FUN OF MY SACRED COWS"
> Depends if their behaviour has changed though. Proven to be wrong is not the same as changing their behaviour and thinking that led to it in the first place. Have they changed the way the act or trash people instantly for humour? It is like when someone is caught doing something wrong and apologising.
Literally trashing people for comedic purposes is worse than being a champagne socialist that still uses technology to sperg instead of going full anprim
> I mean, no, but this is like, maybe the first time they've admitted to being wrong?
Still one more than a redditor
> The problem is they continue to do the same kind of harmful things. Their recent "we're so edgy and liberals can't take how edgy we are" dick-stroking bullshit from the past few seasons is a big part of the rhetorical wave that got Trump memed into the whitehouse. If they actually learned from their fuckups, that would be one thing, but the problem is they continue to make the same fuck ups just substituting different talking points in for the things they already learned they fucked up.
Lmao they actually think Trump got into the white house because of south park
spectacularly wrong about things in the smuggest ways possible, and then they wisely stroke their chins after vomiting their low IQ garbage all over the place.

It means the same thing as nazi or commie or incel.
9 AngelaBeedle 2019-12-08
Lmao it’s funny you mention commie.
Have you actually seen people say that? My philosophy buddy who’s more an anarchist actually called communists reactionary and I was like Jesus pretty much anyone can be a reactionary now
1 sobratonix 2019-12-08
Tbf, is Eastern Europe communists are considered conservative/reactionary.
1 Acto12 2019-12-08
Yeah and they are supported pretty much only by boomers there, not by mentally impaired troids like here in the west
4 AngelaBeedle 2019-12-08
A simple explanation is that reactionary is someone that opposes reform/change and wants things to stay the same or return to an earlier time.
Most times you see the word reactionary it means what The Reason Pete Wins. People just say it to mean “conservative, Nazi, incel, anyone right of me”

Words dont lose their meaning just because some retard misuses them, they just become a red flag that you're dealing with a retard.

This is the most beautiful and intelligent statement I've ever seen on /r/Drama.
5 AngelaBeedle 2019-12-08
Ah yeah you’re totally right. It has basically lost all meaning.

Reactionary means person I do not like. It means nothing.

Like early 90s. They tried to blow up Bush Sr. with a car bomb in Kuwait. Now get out, zoomer.
1 whenweriiide 2019-12-08
Jeb!
1 ironicshitpostr 2019-12-08
Oh man can you imagine if that succeeded?
Only Americans get to assassinate the President ergo Iraq would be the 51st state once the unpleasantness was over
1 R0saParkinsons 2019-12-08
If you can remember the early 90's you are either a boomer or a xoomer and I don't know which is worse.

If they don't understand that the entire movie is mocking imperialism, my jimmies are seriously rustled
-5 MilitaryGradeFursuit 2019-12-08
The entire movie up until the Dicks, Pussies, and assholes speech. That speech defends America's imperialist foreign policy.
12 faponurmom 2019-12-08
Imagine taking any part of that movie seriously
1 pepperouchau 2019-12-08
Anyone who lets the creators of BASEketball influence their political beliefs never had hope in the first place

If you unironically believe that satire doesn't exist to make serious points, then you don't get satire.
11 faponurmom 2019-12-08
If your take away from Team America is that it paints imperialism in a good light, you're a full blown retard

6 WineDine69stein 2019-12-08

1 MilitaryGradeFursuit 2019-12-08
Who gave the speech isn't important.
1 reiianisatroll 2019-12-08
I haven't seen the movie but if the part you find bad involves bussy you are automatically wrong.
1 MilitaryGradeFursuit 2019-12-08
Oh it's not bad at all. It's a hilarious scene. I just don't approve of the message
