California just fucked their freelancers/contractors too. Some rule about hiring contractors to do anything related to the core of your business is now against state laws, so people are just firing California contractors. lol

About time too, 95% of them were "contractors" not contractors. Employers have been abusing the fuck out of the 1099 system so they dont have to give benefits to their employees. The only people really mad about it are the ones who are going to have finally pay people what they should've been in the first place

Freelancers are unhappy about it too. Not saying employers don't abuse contractor vs employee status, but for someone like me (I don't live in California though), it's a really bad bill.

Kinda sucks that the 5% or whatever of legit cases get screwed but that's what happens when assholes abuse the system, the industries affected have had ample warning to change their ways but since they didn't they got slapped by the big dick of the law
