My Best Friend
1 2019-12-26 by Lychosand
5 months ago my best friend died becase a drunk driver decided to go about his night. They hit my friend, and he died in the hospital. I was supposed to meet up with him and a couple of friends within a week from his death. He was going on to finish his masters. I haven't taken it well yet. But you idiots are cool. And you can all do well. Don't be a fucking retard. Don't cause unnecessary pain with your actions. Find what you need to do in life and do it. Don't be retarded your whole lives

Okay, so first of all, you've just made a reply to me that is in two unrelated parts. The first is unrelated to anything I said. As long as you comport yourself in this manner, you will only be met with derision. It is a nonsense method of communication.

Sorry man. Sometimes it feels like the best of us are taken early, just to leave the worst of us tards to the world we create. You will make it through.

More specifically, if you’re going to be retarded, do it in a way that you’re only endangering yourself and not others

Goddammit, I don't come here to feel feelings, you asshole.

My condolences mate, I was a habitual drunk driver for a long time but don't do it anymore because I don't want to hurt people like yourself. Have a good one.

Unless you live somewhere rural, with the invention of uber, lyft etc there's no excuse to drink.and drive anymore
1 bebackinanhourorso 2019-12-26
Yeah I'm old, it was common for us to go down the beach for a 6 pack and a couple of roadies. No uber etc back then, and it was expected that you get at least one DUI.

Genuine question since you’ve been personally hurt by it:
What’s your opinion on the BAC limit in the US at .08?
People driving at .06 aren’t causing fatal accidents....at least in my state.
Since they lowered the legal BAC from .10 to .08, it hasn’t led to any noticeable decrease in drunk driving, or drunk accidents, only more arrests, and more money for local/state police. Again, just in my state.
They’re saying driving services like Uber are affecting drunk driving more than anything in recent history which I think is great.
Do you think it should be zero tolerance? What’s your opinion on people who have a couple beers after work and drive home? What about people who smoke weed and drive?
Curious about your opinions on it.

Without seeing the data for what you say I can't really make a conclusion here. Zero tolerance makes no sense. But at the same time even with bac different people react differently and bac levels. Although obviously how people behave at different levels can be generalized. I've personally have driven after having beers but never too many that put me to a impaired state.
Really the only thing I could see happening in the future is to adopt zero tolerance. Alongside self driving cars IF they become competent. People should always have the agency to drive if they so choose. But if you've chosen to drink at anytime then you should choose the alternative that entirely eliminates the probability of you causing harm to another.
You stated that lowering the legal level has just led to more arrests. One thing to take note is that when laws are implemented for these reasons. It is meant to deter. This effect comes over a period of time and not immediately. So it's a given that you'd see an uptick in charges for this. IF zero tolerance is the goal. It cannot happen over night.

My best friend in high school killed himself because he was going to jail for 5 years for drug trafficking and other stuff. He did it in his lawyer's office and the fucked up thing was that his suicide letter read like he murdered the lawyer and his secretary. He also had his cousin deliver a box to his ex who was also a good friend of mine. Among the things in the box was a bullet that he said was for her but he decided not to kill her as well

ngl it sounds like the world may be a little bit better without him in it

Yeah it was a crazy experience finding all that out. He went from being a quiet vietnamese guy to deranged weirdo. We all still have mixed feelings about it, I spent my junior and senior year with him constantly, I was one of the few of his white friends his family liked, they invited me to watch the body get cremated and I still talk to his sister 16 years later but there was definitely some fucked up shit going thru his head that none of us knew about.

I think you and the folks on this subreddit would've liked my buddy. His brothers managed to get a pic of him with his dick tip out on during the visitation
