/r/Drama is one of the most reactionary and transphobic subreddits on this website. Their moderators consistently promote this behaviour, and their userbase has been known to harass leftists and brigade their posts.
I created this subreddit as a response to that. All hatred and shenanigans at /r/drama can be catalogued and made fun of accordingly.
There are only two rules: no bigotry and no /r/drama users.
Before you write a piece again about disabled people, you should do some serious reflection on why you, as a writer, either found it impossible to or didn't consider it important enough to write at all about the feelings of disabled ppl. Because our perspectives matter too.
This is how disabled people getting killed by their family members becomes normalized. STOP DOING THIS TO US!!!
An article about a disabled person being murdered that doesn‘t quote a number of educated disabled people on the topic, that doesn‘t take a clear stance against the burden-narrative...Do you really not see how this contributes to us getting murdered?! Educate yourself!!!
Stop romanticizing the murder of disabled people!
Alzheimer's is not a disability. It's a terminal illness from which there's no cure.
Bullshit. Tell that to my mum who is going through this with her husband at the moment. He needs a 12 hr caregiver and cannot drive anymore because the disease effects his judgement and memory. His personality changes, taking in jibberish. Not a disability? Right.
No. Read the literature. 93% of killers in M/F murder-suicides are men. It’s a story of his taking control away from the wife, away from the family, because Dudeman thought only he could make the decision. You have bought into a destructive fairy tale. Do better.
What complete and utter bullshit. This man murdered his disabled wife. Such a sympathetic portrayal of him is both a travesty and a giant, gendered cringeworthy cliché. #himpathy
This isn’t love. He murdered her. I am disabled and have a living will, medical power of attorney. I urge everyone to have those documents in place so that your OWN wishes are known.
So it turns out that a disease that slowly rots your brain is actually a disability and people with Alzheimer's should be kept alive for as long as possible as they slowly decay. How empowering!
I wonder if they’ve ever seen someone with Alzheimer’s or severe dementia being kept alive through medical means after any semblance of their mind and personality has vanished. It’s horrific and leaves you guilt-stricken, empty, and terrified that it will happen to you.
Eventually we will develop life support technology to put their brain in a jar so that they can live in endless panic and agony kept forever fresh by their inability to remember, fumbling in the darkness for a single thread of sanity until their brain crumbles to dust.
My 85 year old grandad still brings a chocolate eclair to my gran at the care home that she lives in every morning. She remembers who he is about once a fortnight, and then she tells all the nurses that's her boyfriend and not to tell her Mam he sneaked in. That's a love story.
wow true love story grandma cant even remember her husband who’s shes been married to most of her whole life and is slowly dying and is completely delirious from a terminal illness with no cure
My grandfather is currently suffering from alzheimer's. It's at the point where he can't remember my name nor have any form of conversation with others. He lives in an old folks home. They supply him meds and food and clean him when he shits himself. He is combatative with the nurses because in the reality of things he is confused and has no clue whats going on. Not to mention how depressing living in his current state must be. I live far away so It's hard for me to go visit him. It's also really hard for me to see him like this as I can remember him growing up. All I can hope for is that I somehow die before that happens to me. I do not want to be a burden to my loved ones. And I think that's totally fair.
I think people who want to prolong the lives of those afflicted with the disease are actually struggling with the idea that one day they too will die.
It's a morally complicated issue which is why it's so irritating to see people on twitter, who admit to not having read the article, saying that the man only killed his wife because he viewed disabled people as less than human and wanted to take away his wife's agency
just put me out of my misery im not dealing with that shit
i dont even think these people have anyone suffering from alheizimers in their life, i think they are just so WOKE that slow suffering and a painful fear ridden death is an good thing
I'm not afraid of dying. I'm afraid of dying covered in shit while my family who I can't even remember the faces of watches on in horror. That's what scares me.
I think they are okay with it if you kill yourself because you're depressed and old, but not if you have any sort of abnormality because that's a disability and admitting that being disabled disadvantages you in any way is ableism and fascism
This is the first time I've seen people say that a crippling, fatal neurodegenerative disorder is a disability though. Why isn't mad cow disease a disability then? I thought diseases could make you disabled, I didn't know that every time I catch the flu I'm catching a disability
fuck that article hit me hard. I had two grandparents die of the alz. They reach a point where they just arent there anymore. Just a lump of skin unable to move, think, talk, or anything until the disease shuts down their involuntary bodily functions. Then they die. But thanks to libtards, they can live out that horrible prison for as long as the medical community can keep them alive!!
to be honest this response made me seethe, I hope that if I get dementia and don't get around to offing myself in time, someone will have the good grace to put a bullet in me
Yep. Had a grandfather with alzheimers. These fucking cunts have clearly never been around someone with it. It's not a disability, it's a death sentence.
theres ways to stave it off, studies have been done of nuns and they remain high functioning even when autopsies confirm their brains are physically rotted and appear alzheimer’d out. supposedly its because they do puzzles, mind games, memorize scripture and have tasks to do all day every day instead of sitting in front of a TV watching MASH for 9 hours
My grandfather did alright until my grandmother got sick because she kept things organized and kept him busy. If she was gone for any length of time he fell apart fast. Sadly cigarettes killed the wrong one first.
Eventually we will develop life support technology to put their brain in a jar so that they can live in panic and agony, fumbling in the darkness to find a single thread of sanity until their brain crumbles to dust.
Damn, it's pretty mind boggling how little empathy these people have.
Like, did he do the right thing? I honestly don't know. But the fact that they unironically cannot comprehend that he did it out of love and compassion for his wife blows my mind. Like, maybe they're just broken human beings, but I can understand that after months and years of watching the person you love most suffer day in and day out you may feel that it's compassionate to let her go. Not to mention, it's not like he got off Scott free, he put the next round in his own head.
when i get alheizimers from my shitty genetics and rampant drug abuse i want my 3D printed cat waifu to take me out to the shed and shoot me like old yeller
Alzheimers is probably the worst disease you can have as an elderly person. Just imagine losing your memory of all of your family, and everything you know. You dont even realize why you got up, what movie you were watching, what you are cooking, pretty much everything. This isnt a disability, it is an incurable disease that ruins your life.

It’s not that their humanity and self has been slowly stolen from in front of them, it’s that they are neurodivergent!
These people should just go full hog and vote for someone in a permanent vegetative stage as Miss America or something.

It’s hard for them to relate because there is no level of indignity that would dim their enjoyment of life and all its wonders

Fucking lmao. "Fempathy" is both much more common and a much better portmanteau. These people could not set themselves up better if they tried.

It's like the Krauts allowing abortion in all cases except if the foetus has extra chromosomes.

That fetus is totally dependent on you and has no mental capacity, killing them isn't murder!
