In The Lord of the Rings, J. R. R. Tolkien drew upon the language and themes found in the old Medieval hero-tales in order to construct a kind of new mythology. The brilliance of Tolkien was in his departure from the Pagan modes of conduct and morality of these old tales, his creation of a syncretistic fusion between Christian thought and Pagan language, and so his work achieved a deep resonance with all who read it.

We find this passage at the conclusion of The Return of the King:

>The Dark Lord was suddenly aware of him, and his Eye piercing all shadows looked across the plain to the door that he had made; and the magnitude of his own folly was revealed to him in a blinding flash, and all the devices of his enemies were at last laid bare.

Adversaries in the stories that Tolkien drew upon, Grendel, Mordred and the like, often served as obstacles that the heroes could overcome through feats of strength and cunning. Sauron is not like them. When Sauron is defeated, it is not because Aragorn is stronger than him or because Gandalf is wiser. They are not. It is only that his hubris was so great that it never occured to him that anyone would want to destroy the thing he held so dear. It is not until the final few seconds of his existence that he realises his mistake.

I think that I Am Jazz displays a similar moment. In the pictured scene, Jazz's journey to what he believes is womanhood is almost complete. He is resting after surgery, a triumphant smile on his face, his rotting groin held together by a labyrinthine patchwork of stitches and grafts. But as Eru Ilúvatar nudged Gollum over the Crack of Doom into the fires beneath, so too does the God of our world intervene in this.

>Pop!

In a second, the follies of men are undone and Jazz's crotch explodes, a meaty froth of blood and pus pouring out of the hole where his penis used to be.

In that moment of blind panic and terror, Jazz is Sauron. All triumph and victory is gone. Only the Void remains.

I’ve watched it 5 times now and each time I appreciate it more and more.

OH G-D I'M GONNA

CONSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

I am superior because only consoooom drama.

At least drama is free

Tell Comcast that, the fuckers are starting to bitch about my terabyte+ drama consooooomption.

I consoom classic litrature and Wagner and then lift weights and then sleep with my loving white wife in order to bring about the ethnostate.

It's tough work, but it must be done for my people.

Also I really like Mountain Dew.

to bee fare, BR2049 was the only good soft reboot last decade

It wasn't that good wtf

It was as good as its predecessor I guess. Maybe a bit more accessible.

Maybe a bit more accessible.

if by way of J.J. Abrams.... yes... yes it was. Aka another pandering bland shitpile that will be forgotten in 10 years just as Trek 2009 was and the new Starshits will be.

JJ isn't half the director Villeneuve is. Even if the latter wanted to make complete sell out movie it would be better.

Villenueve is the only director I can recognize from visual style alone. I didn’t know he did Sicario, but halfway through I could tell.

What about his style do you feel is distinctive? If I saw Blade Runner without knowing the director I wouldn't know if it was Refn or Villeneuve.

Other than shoving in Harrison Ford for mainstream appeal it is very much not a corporate blockbuster remake. The movie stands pretty well on its on.

You developed nostalgia glasses that prevents you from appreciating a different aesthetic choice and a better Latina waifu.

Latina

How do you people even tell? They all look like wh*toids to me

Yeah, people forget that in the original BR, the only interesting character development happens in the last ten minutes. The rest is eye candy -- really really good eye candy, but still eye candy

Not a fan of 2049, but I didn't have any issue with the visual aesthetics.

It’s definitely more accessible than the original just because it’s so incredible to look at

We only had 100-200 cows growing up but seeing just how fucking stupid they are makes it bother me significantly less

This is exactly the reason why I support the farming of people with learning disabilities, especially fat ones.

Based takes all round

Vegans are one of few groups that even milquetoast subs like to mercilessly shit on.

I had to double-check the timestamp when I read this comment because it seemed like such a dramacel contribution

I liked it, it was kinda different than everything else I'd seen in a theatre for a while which was cool.

gtfo, it was a masterpiece

I think they nailed the atmosphere. It didn't feel like a knock off of the original or a basic sci fi setting. It felt like its own thing, very distinct from everything else I've seen. I'm very interested in Villeneuve's take on the dune universe

It wasn’t as good as the original, but I still liked it.

It had the problem Villeneuve movies have had lately: not trusting the audience on anything. I mean christ, in Enemy Jake Gyllenhaal didn't look at the camera at the end and say "the spider represents my issues with commitment", but in Arrival and BR2049 they have to constantly throw in exposition and flashbacks for stuff the average audience member should actually remember.

The problem is that general audiences are far more retarded than you think. People still probably were confused about those movies even with all the hand holding.

It was such an odd decision though, I wouldn't say it was an arthouse movie but it certainly wasn't as accessible to moviegoing audiences in the first place, so why throw in a hail mary of exposition right at the end?

r/movie posters are lower than farm animals and deserve to be treated as such

People in that thread already advocated for killing redditors for food

Explain to me why killing redditors would be a bad thing

Killing not. But would you eat a redditor? That's disgusting

Vegan drama is always fun because there's always the chance the Reddit Vegan Defense Force will come and visit us. :>

I was just about to say "So, there's a defence force for every partisan group" and then I clicked the link and I was like...wow.

No wonder people hate them. Those people do it for free and they aren't even janitors. I pity them.

Blade Runner is better if you pretend the replicants are troids.

Replicants pass for humans, troids don't.

Depends how drunk Deckard is that night.

Meat eaters are so easily triggered.

MUST CONSOOOOOOM MEAT

oh hell yeah I'll consume meat

BACON THO

Stay anemic vitamin cel

Calls out meat eaters for being easily triggered

Gets downvoted (on drama of all places)

vegetarians are good people

vegans are neither of those two things

Retarded Vegan

But I repeat myself

Level 10 vegans eat 2 of their own fingers to show dedication to the cause.

I hate how so many posts read like High School essays on this site. Do they realize they aren't graded based on how well they followed the template? You don't have to use a transition word at the start of new paragraphs. Why even write more than one? Caring about fake points has ended the age of unhinged rants everywhere but /r/Drama and 4chan.

Bladerunner 2049 is not kino.

Neither was signs, regardless of how much it made you tear up, sadly
