My favorite albums of 2019. I thought I would share with all my buddies here on drama š„°š„°š„° Iād be happy to write brief album blurbs for all my fellow dramanauts in the future, and Iād love to talk about music with yāall, since Indieheads is full of homos and HipHopHeads is a minstrel show.

"All Mirrors" is Olsen's best album. clipping is great, but not sure how popular growth will affect him.
No big thief, sharon von etten, Jenny Lewis, better oblivion community center? At least you didn't ruin it with vampire weekend. Not including The National outs you as a nazi.

It seems like the popularity of Hamilton and Diggsās sudden deluge of film/TV appearances havenāt neutered what clipping. has going on, so hereās to hoping!
And I liked The Nationalās album, it just didnāt beat out the others for me. Very pretty album.

#1 should be Lover - Taylor Swift

Listened to that clipping one.
Good synth work, and some nice layering, but ultimately each song ran out of ideas pretty quick and degenerated in to noise/'weirdness', verging on pretentious.
Plus instantly it's about ppl getting shot. Can nigs actually sing about anything that isn't the hood? Nice syncopation and lyricwriting though. Plus ultra-clear vocals and good production.
5/10

You are in good company with Pitchfork, then, because they scored it around there, too! Though they seem to have a running distaste for the group in general.

Yeah, it's not bad but it doesn't really hit its potential imo. I was intrigued at the first few tracks, and completely bored by the time I was at the last half of the album.
Tbh though I don't really listen to hiphop because it's all kinda like that to me. The current zeitgeist is to go hard on production but not much else (same with all pop genres atm)- compositional innovation in the pop world has really taken a backseat in the last decade.
It just leaves everything feeling like an ultra-sweet vanilla cheesecake to me: First few bites are great but then you realise there isn't much there to bring you back for a second bite. By the time you've finished the first few songs you've heard the whole album.

Too lazy to make a list this year but here's all the 5s and 4.5s I gave out https://i.imgur.com/0YUXYEE.jpg
Your taste is pretty good but anyone who makes RYM lists in reverse order needs to be shot
1 TayloTayloBookito 2020-01-07
Why would I put #1 at the top and spoil the surprise?
6 YHofSuburbia 2020-01-07
No one cares about anything except your top 5-10 and making me scroll down is you forcing me to do emotional labour

I apologize. I should have thought about your limited number of spoons š¢

Jakub Zytecki - Nothing Lasts Nothing's Lost deserves to be on any best of 19 list

The fact that Become the Discovered, not the discoverer or Upsurge or Iss004 among other albums aren't on your list show the fact that your taste is actual trash. I can forgive leaving off Fuck Varg by Varg or Where were you on 9/11 by Haram but Upsurge was a far better electronic album compared to the absolute shit on your list.

Thatās not very nice ā¹ļø Sadly, Iām not Quietus, so I donāt get around to everything in a year. Thank you for the suggestions, though! Though as far as anything with Merzbowās grimey fingerprints all over it, Iād prefer that my music at least pretend to sound like music ā¤ļø
1 KaposGetOut 2020-01-07
Its literally noise rock. Daughters is closer to real noise than this album is and Daughters is nothing close to noise. Most Clipping albums are more more abstract than this album was lmao. Keiji Haino isn't an edge lord like Merzbow who makes albums of static. It's closer to Boredoms, Sunn O))) or Boris than most Merzbow solo releases.

Ya'll got any foghat?

Didn't know there was new FlyLo, Anamanaguchi and Holly in 2019, cheers
2 TayloTayloBookito 2020-01-07
Glad I could help! The new Holly album really feels like a moment. Not as immediate as Platform, but very possibly more important. I feel like Herndon really is on another level of musical geniusābasically to music what I feel Iris Van Herpen is to fashion.
