Comics are very different now than they were before especially I know with like Miles Morales and Kamala Khan and stuff, and one of my favorite comics I have read is All Star Superman which works real well with my probably quite modern sensibilities with politics and morality.
Still, I mean there is a reason that The Dark Knight's interpretations of Batman and Superman were effective no? And I'd call the portrayal of especially Superman there fascist. I think that it is fair to say that most popular superheros are older ones, and many movie superhero portrayals (up until quite recently) are behind the curve of comics in terms of representing more modern interpretations of the heroes. Hell even BvS plays on this critique for both heroes using a modern example (I know that also draws on The Dark Knight Returns but still). So I think there is still a lot of authoritarian flavor closer to fascism than any other authoritarian ideologies in the cultural perception of what a superhero is, especially with older people of which there are a lot. As younger people grow up with the MCU and more out there superhero movies (the Glass trilogy comes to mind) I think that the complications and critiques of superheros will evolve too but I think that saying there is some fashy aspects to many people's conception of a superhero and some of the more popular ones (Batman and Superman especially just going off the top of my head) isn't totally outdated yet. But I think you're totally right in that I was probably taking a more narrow slice than I intially let on, and lots of new heroes or modern portrayals of old ones have a lot of cultural capital even among people who don't read comics or aren't as tapped into current media and shit.

The people who say chromosomes only determine sex, not gender always bring up chromosomal abnormalities as proof of multiple genders even though those people typically identify as one of the two genders in the binary. If gender is a social construct doesn't the fact that our society doesn't recognize more mean they don't exist? At least in America (the only real country) the only real third+ genders would be in small communities of foreigners who recognize that kind of thing. Speaking of which, they love pointing to these foreign cultures that have three or more genders without acknowledging those outside the typical binary are less "heckin cute and valid" and more "AIDS-infected, drug-addicted, and scorned."
