If you support free speech, you must support people pinging other users. It's completely legal speech. If you won't defend pinging as free speech because you or someone else finds it disgusting, then no speech that you or anyone else views as disgusting is safe.
>if it is in fact on shaky legal ground it's reasonable to not want to be the case that establishes it as illegal.
It's not, The reddit admins are straight up lying to the ignorant (like yourself) to justify their prejudice. Pinging being protected speech has long since been estabilished, as it has undeniable artistic merit. The only time it's been included under any obscenity laws is when someone is being charged with possession of harassment, so the state can slap them with more charges. The courts have been very careful to not charge anyone for pinging, because they'd get their asses fucking annihilated by a higher court due to the firm precedence of pinging being completely legal speech. /r/Drama had nothing to worry about, this guy was just making shit up to fool people into thinking his censoring wasn't entirely personally motivated.
Nobody, not even most libertarians who find welfare state a bad thing, would show sympathy to a person who openly says he wants to end welfare, regardless of whether this particular idea is sound. It sounds horrible and cruel. Why would you emphasise this policy when doing an AMA?
It's more of an appeal kinda thing. As everyone knows, politics is all about how you sound, what you signal. Even if cutting welfare spending is a good idea, when you say I want to eliminate welfare state all people will hear is "I want to fuck the poor". So if you're doing an AMA, you don't write "Hello I want to cut welfare" in your title. That's a policy you will expand in your comments with a more appropriate language. Even tho I'm a libertarian the title irritated me a bit.
"What are your thoughts on Somalia, the ideal libertarian country? It has no government since 1991, and thus all the problems in society caused by government has gone, making it a libertarian utopia. How do you plan on turning our country into Somalia?"
Statists insist that there is some magical age at which every single person on earth is ready to give sexual consent, and seem unbothered by the fact that in America, this age varies from state to state. Logically, either that means: 1. There is not actually a magical age 2. Some states have set the age too high, and are prosecuting people unjustly 3. Some states have set the age too low, and are failing to protect kids 4. Human nature somehow varies from one state to another.

that comment and the way it ignored the question seemed a little too much like fake bait to me

He's not particular wise...especially considering his comments on age of consent laws.

Because the welfare system is terrible, why wouldn't you want to get rid of it

That doesn't make any sense, why wouldn't I be sympathetic to someone and support a good idea
