My own humble solution is abolish programs that require infinite economic and population growth, like Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid. After that, deport every last illegal immigrant and put up a gigantic drone/laser border and spend the next 40 years coasting down to 100 million people, then slowly start reinstating the homestead act and return to a subsistence lifestyle while still having all the amazing modern tech that keeps us from dying of a blown up appendix.
I remember searching a while back for a comfy innawoods subreddit to discuss prepper strategies and possible doomsday scenarios. I was disappointed to find out that all they talk about on /r/collapse is global warming.
