Burka is actually an Afghanistan thing I think, they have a mesh in front of their face. Gulf style Niqab with the eyeslit technically is not a burka but it is frequently referred to as such because it's similar.

Standard hijab is just a headscarf and doesn't cover the face, but burquas and niqab are still a form of hijab. Face covering forms of hijab of course are particularly dehumanizing because the face is what makes us human and allows us to express ourselves. That's why villains in movies tends to wear masks. I'm pretty sure no one would care if Ahmed hadn't at some point in the past gotten so anxious about people seeing his foid that he needed those final bits covered up so that couldn't even express themselves in public. A headscarf in contrast is at worst just prudish.

Ironically this was a practice that the Muslims got from the byzantines basically. But it got into the Muslim tradition and Islam is an extremely tradition based religion. Unlike Protestant Christianity, which is scripture only and tradition can't be a source of inspiration. The five pillars of Islam aren't even in the Koran.
