i remember seeing it trending back when everyone was shitting their pants over ebola. apparently they learned from the experience and are capitalizing on this panic more deliberately.
It is kinda genius to have a product that will inevitably be advertised by massively international news stories every few years. I only played it a few times and was still reminded of it just by reading the news.
I imagine like gaming youtubers and stuff will start playing it again for the clicks too.
Plague Inc. stands out as an intelligent and sophisticated simulation that encourages players to think and learn more about serious public health issues.
I like it but I got bored because no matter what you're using (bacteria, virus, etc.) the strategy is always the same: spread, get rid of any symptoms so they don't spot you, and after finally conquering Greenland start making it deadly.
At least, that's it on the mobile and free version.
It actually uses CDC known statistics about how fast stuff spreads and they just compound that in the game. Like if people don't wash their hands so if you make it infect faster that way whatever % increase in infection the CDC posted they did that in the code.
That always struck me as such a bizarre thing for them to brag about. So instead of wasting tons of time studying disease behavior to create their own mathematical models and reinvent the wheel they used the well-known and publicly available CDC data and models. Congratulations on not being a total retard I guess? Is it really worthy of praise that they took the easiest, most sensible design route - shouldn’t that be the bare minimum anyone expects
I re downloaded it and that, plus the random ass Brexit quips, make the game almost unbearably cringy. It’s like devs can’t put just one minute into making their games timeless.
How long do you think they’ll wait until they capitalize off of Coronavirus too?
Also, I found out that they made another game called Rebel Inc., and holy shit it’s bad. I have no idea what happened between Plague Inc and that monstrosity. Did their dev team get culled or something?

Yeah, I looked at it and it's basically just a re-skin of Plague Inc. I'm guessing either the current developers have no idea how to actually push beyond what they know or those who would try, have left. So you're suck with a bunch of babies living off plague inc money developing morale high horses instead of skills.

Yep. Is the pc version different?
3 SwagerJagg 2020-02-27
No, it’s an obvious mobile port, looks wierd on PC
4 Chapose 2020-02-27

Wasn’t it originally a flash game?
1 SwagerJagg 2020-02-27
That’s pandemic. But plague inc was inspired by pandemic

That's true, but I believe they added other types of infections (like zombies) where that strategy doesn't work. Haven't played it in a while though.

Zombies is arguably easier since you can direct zombie hordes to swim across the ocean and invade Greenland that way.
Although if they fortify a high population country like China, India or USA you're fucked.

Only works if you want a low score.
On high difficulty and going for high scores you have to spread and get lethal very fast or you can't mutate anything and get cured too quickly.

idk i made the GamerGate virus last time i played and seemed like an accurate simulation if left unchecked.

We're talking about a bunch of fart-sniffing devs that used politico and snopes to make a "spreading fake news" scenario in their game.
