Soup is really just an adjective used to describe liquids more viscous than water.

Humans are obsessed with food, so it has become the basis for a lot of metaphors. Since all words are essentially a series metaphors, only deriving meaning from other words, within the context of a language of words, words have no inherent meaning. That is to say culture imposes meaning upon words.

The word soup is culinary in origin, but it has taken on a metaphorical definition, the one I gave up there^. So I don't think it would be wrong to apply the adjective soupy, or soup-like, to beans.

Fuck yeah. Before my work got cancelled someone left a bag of dried beans on one of the desks. No one claimed it so I took it home and made a delicious bean soup out of it with some meat and vegetables.
