Agree, although almost all authoritarian governments place their leader's interests before the people. China is more the exception than the rule, in that they are unusually competent at governing, and far more accountable than most. If you look at other authoritarian governments, I wouldn't trust them to do nearly as well.

Fun fact, the Trump administration has more in common with corrupt authoritarian governments than democratic ones.
