Lol you think wars are something that can be won. My mistake for forgetting children can get on reddit. I bet eighth grade was a blast until schools shut down amirite? Do you even understand what a sovereign nation is? An insurgency? It's pretty clear geopolitics isnt your forte, but hey maybe you're good at minecraft or fortnite!
I can tell you that without knowing anything about you, where you are from or where you live now, that without the American military you have so much contempt for, you would either be in a mass grave, nonexistent or goose stepping right now so your welcome.
Why they always resort to bringing up death tolls? Do these mushroom brains literally think the goal of that war was the extinction of the Vietnamese people or something?
This is what happens when all the jingoist kids in highschool that solely play CoD and think they want to enlist get reddit accounts. They probably oversaw their dad watching platoon when they were young and thought that Barnes was the based one.
In some part yes it was more about killing the VC than holding any territory. However the US military can destroy any other traditional military but sucks at counter insurgency π«
Thats probably not inaccurate. I'm also of the opinion that the nature of the war led to an imbalance of enthusiasm, with the Viet Cong fighting against an oppressive government and America fighting a threat so abstract no one seemed to care that much
Oh for sure there was definitely a lack of support from home which led to the US pulling out. While the tet offensive was a military failure from the VC the US media made it seem like a horrible loss for the US. One of the big reasons. You are 100% correct

Lmao did you even read the thread. When he said Vietnam lost because Americans killed more. Then I said the US lost 60000 soldiers, failed to contain communism then the south got invaded. If that's victory then wtf is defeat. Then he got emotional about his precious militarino losing ππ
Lmaooo so he blocked me like a bitch after crying "I'm not talking to you anymore" then coming back to seethe some more.
I am. He's literally making word words words posts about why american doesn't "win" and you're hypsteria posting with emojis. And then someone else is replying to you.
Which is ironic you talk about emotional when nothing is more emotional than hysteria posting in the guise of shitposting.

OP is wrong here. The Iraq Warβs goal was to remove Saddam Hussein and his government from power. The war in Afghanistan was to remove the Taliban from power. Both were accomplished within months of the start of those wars. The transition towards rebuilding had very little success in Iraq and Afghanistan. But to claim that the rebuilding effort proves that the US lost the war in Iraq is like saying the Western allies lost WW2 because they couldnβt unify Germany during the Cold War. War and nation building are two different things with completely different goals.
Vietnam was a civil war between the Vietnamese. S. Vietnam invited the US to assist them in defeating N. Vietnam. S. Vietnam was incapable of holding back the invading north so the US had to take over the battlefield. Congress later opted to pull all US forces from Vietnam and the S. Vietnamese lost their civil war.
I'll agree with you on Iraq and Afghanistan, but with Vietnam it was clearly a strategic defeat. Even though the withdrawal was voluntary and not forced by battlefield realities, the primary strategic objective of preserving South Vietnam was not achieved. If failing to achieve your main aim in a conflict while your enemy achieves their main aim isn't a defeat, then I don't know what is.
