I almost exclusively use it to browse here, deux, and any insane niche communities that I find funny. I used to post more on a lot of food, drink, and hobby subs, but I've mostly moved that to another account, and even a lot of those are losing their culture and quality to r/allification.

For example, r/drunkencookery used to be one of the best subs on the site. It was mainly industry personnel drinking and preparing elaborate home cooked meals and then posting play-by-play albums afterwards. There were some degenerate alcoholics and occasional funny shitty meals and drunchies posts, but it was largely a community for people who loved food to post late night kitchen adventures and bullshit with each other. See for example, [this post](reddit.com/r/drunkencookery/comments/8pyo5j/a_full_italian_meal_for_tony/) or [this post](reddit.com/r/drunkencookery/comments/2izhqi/epic_belated_birthday_boys_night_in_started/). They'd even have theme weeks and competitions that got a lot participation. Now it's basically a combination of r/drunk and r/shittyfoodporn, all the posts are "Huehuehue I drank a alcohol" with a grainy photo of a hot dog or some sort of unidentifiable burnt slop.

And it's not a unique phenomenon to that sub, either. r/slowcooking, for example, was ruined by "upvote soup," and r/charcuterie has to fight a constant invasion of people posting shitty snack tray spreads. Somehow r/bbq and r/smoking have stayed okay, but they pale compared to barbecue-brethren.com or any of the other good forums.

All niche subreddits start as the best fucking thing you've ever seen, then slowly get ripped from you as they grow and dilute into the same 3 gimmicks and easy karmafarm, while the original people who made it good leave
