Who here isnt a cs major?

They're like roaches who only come out when they smell the sweet scent of humble brag.

Not even a real science 😂

Go outside nerds, ted was right.

Ted was trans

I thought that was political science?

No that’s economics

Don't even get me started on Software Engineers.

People brag about being a CS major?

If a tinder thot asks me what my major is I just say I'm in eng to hide the shame.

A long time ago, I earned a CS degree from a reasonably respectable university.

But I decided that I didn't want to be inside (I need to be outside a lot) and stare at a computer screen all day, so I made a career out of building high end residential homes.

Using sharp dangerous tools all day long, full time, isn't so unlike knowing how to manipulate an operating system. It just takes the right kind of skill.

There is such a thing as the 30 year old programmer burnout too where you just hate your job. I guess that's probably true for anyone. I like coding my own little personal projects but will an hero if I ever have to do it in corporate again. You don't even code much anymore. It's all meetings and stupid Agile crap with maybe an hour of coding a day. The only companies worth working for are big tech companies where you can see cool new technology and be creative.

eta: I should add that big tech companies have cool technology, but my fucking god the meetings and politics drain the soul out of you.

but my fucking god the meetings and politics drain the soul out of you.

Sigh. This goes on in all fields. It's a pain in my ass.

I kinda figure. You can love your field and absolutely hate corporate. I too couldn't stand being stuck indoors all day at a desk. A lot of coders move into management for better pay and less stress and then they find it's even worse to be middle management haha.

Middle management is the worst of all worlds. The whole job description is basically shielding your employees from client bullshit.

I am perfectly okay with them getting paid 150% of my salary so I don't have to sit in on meetings where you have to convince some suit from an IT company that we don't support Internet Explorer 5 anymore. (Actual situation that has happened, btw.)

lmao I have been in that situation too. "Why can't we just support all browsers even Netscape?" lmao

Something out of the blue that's always annoyed me, was how everyone ignores the importance of Crazy Browser/Am browser.

For a brief moment in internet history it was the best. It was the first to combine tabbed browsing (if I remember correctly, safari had it first) but combined with built in ad blocking there was nothing like it. It was based on the IE engine, but nothing else had tabbed browsing and ad blocking built in.

It was first known as "Crazy Browser", but the developers changed it to "AM Browser" because they wanted to be more serious.

But then, it just fell off the radar after Firefox and Chrome took over.

For a brief time, Crazy Browser was the best of all.

ha I've never heard of it. At least as an in-house programmer, we could tell people our applications only supported IE (usually we said IE even though I only use chrome lol) and force the user to use IE. But when I first started, I supported public web applications and would get bug reports on obscure browsers and it annoyed the fuck out of me. The owners would tell me to fix it just because all they thought was "why can't you just support everything???" lol

I hate it but I make too much money to think about switching to something else. I guess I'll be able to retire in my early 40s at least so that'll be cool.

I came here to bitch not learn life lessons jesus

I too watched Office Space.

I was too stupid to get a CS degree (can’t do Calc) so I had to settle for IT 🤮

But I left tech awhile ago. Got my MBA and currently do corporate finance. Make way more money and I get to work from home.

i dropped out of business school ill have u know

(then i got a job writing code anyway 🤓)

Math major chad reporting

Undergrad or grad?

Undergrad but I start grad classes next semester 😎

Cool, math is a questionable choice for a major if you don't plan on getting at least a masters.

I don't give a fuck how much you call your flimsy delusions "enlightenment." There is no amount of ceaseless self-deception that will make you accept the charred hellscape of being a miserable useless destitute fucking junkie piece of shit. You know what you are, and it is deeply ugly on every level.

I’m about to get my A+ certs, but I’m an autist. People smug about their majors are always cunts

😎 A+ cert is cool.

Have you ever taken the test 🤔

Are you trying to get me to admit to being a xoomer droppers? lol We talked about this. Yes, took it in the late 90s, so I suppose it's probably different in a lot of ways but it was one of the more enjoyable certs to learn IMO.

Isn’t it 2 tests? I did them last year, easy peazy. Security+ was a bit harder and got me a job.

Yeah it’s like 1001 and 1002. I tend to over prepare for things. Just dumb memorization things like port numbers and the differences in windows 7 and 8.1

You got this 🤓.

Also the scoring on A+ and net+ is really forgiving, the tier 2 and 3 ones are the ones you have to overprepare for.

Imagine thinking you're smart enough for science, but being dumb enough to fall for the "CS makes good money" meme. Filter program working as intended

CS does make good money if you're not socially autistic and can interact with a client without looking like a complete sperg tbh

But that's the only reason I got into CS!

All the CS ppl I know are f*ids who couldn't cut it in engineering

I could not possibly beat the money:effort ratio afforded by programming even though I’d rather be something cooler, like an assassin.

Environmental Science. Now I work for to exploit loopholes for large developers 🙄

Atleast I can get a job anywhere in the country and I still get to travel to jobsites. Still can’t wait to get to grad school.

Chemistry major here

Econ major

“”Business”” and “”finance”” majors are the Canada to our 🍔land

I'll let you know I have 6yrs of experience in coding various languages

I was a legal policy major before I switch to CS.

I'm a Computer Engineer. But it's called Informatics Engineering here.

I just love the IT help desk people at the local community college who act like this makes them equal to a professional engineer or doctor.

I love counter strike, I didnt know they added a major rank to the game
